"I’ll be forever grateful for this opportunity. Working with my mentor was incredible; their knowledge, empathy, and genuine caring made all the difference." There were some amazing connections made in 2024 in the AIS High Performance Coach Mentorship Program, with nearly 50 coach mentors and mentees matched. We are offering coaches an opportunity to get on board for 2025 which will see coaches also have access to ongoing support from the AIS HP Coach Development Team. About us
In collaboration with National Sporting Organisations (NSOs), the National Institute Network and partners, the AIS strives to identify and solve strategic problems on the frontiers of ethical sporting performance. Originally built around a centralised Canberra campus in 1981, the AIS is evolving and expanding its reach. The modern AIS is mobile and agile, helping athletes and sports to get the right services, support and expertise. The AIS campus in Canberra will continue to hold its place as a driver of national pride and inspiration through an ongoing commitment to deliver on sport priorities. We have partnered with the National Institute Network, which already provide high-class facilities, expertise and service delivery across the country. This partnership enables the AIS to focus on areas that make it unique and that can give Australian sport a competitive edge.

We're pleased to welcome Mitch Gourley to our team as our Para Unit System Lead. Mitch will work with State and Territory Sport Institutes and Academies to establish multi-Para-sport hubs around the country through "Para Uplift", a nationwide initiative funded by the Australian Government’s record investment in Para-sport. The first Para Unit was announced at the South Australian Sports Institute in December 2024, with units to be launched in other states and territories in the coming weeks. “It's a pivotal moment to be involved in Para sport and disability sport more broadly, with so much opportunity and a real willingness to collaborate, learn and grow together across the high-performance sport system.” Gourley. For more information about the Para Uplift, visit the Win Well 2032 website at www.winwell2032.au #ParaUplift #Brisbane2032

When a leap to apply turns into a leap around the world. In 2023, sailor Amelia Catt decided to take a leap and apply for the AIS Athlete Accelerate program, a decision which has changed her life. Since its inception in 2021, the AIS Accelerate program has been supporting retired women athletes to pursue a career in sport, with four alumni groups featuring 70 alumni from across 31 different sports, in para and able-bodied disciplines. During the program Amelia made lifelong friends across various sports, and since graduating, it has opened doors in her coaching career. Amelia received an Accelerate Immersion grant which took her to the 2024 World Championships, and in 2025 was inducted into the AIS National Generation 2032 Coach Program where she will continue to expand her coaching knowledge as an early career coach working as the Head Coach of Tasmania and Victoria for Australian Sailing. "I applied for the AIS Athlete Accelerate program to better debrief my own athlete experience in a setting of other high-performance retired athletes, who also had similar career aspirations. It was an incredible opportunity to reflect on my journey and plan for the future." Amelia said. "I made some great friends, debriefed my experience as an athlete, and learnt more about my own ability to influence change across sport systems." If you're a retired woman athlete looking to transition into a career in the sport sector, take the leap like Amelia! ➡️ Athlete Accelerate Program https://lnkd.in/dTjsdARJ

Athletes are naturally driven to seek a competitive edge, and many are extending that mindset beyond sport including Olympian and WNBA basketballer Kristy Wallace who spent her summer volunteering and taking short courses. “I think it is super important for athletes to continue to develop themselves more holistically, tap into the resources provided by their sport, and find a way to develop themselves.” said Wallace. Athletes looking to take the first step may want to consider enrolling in online courses, attending webinars or networking sessions, seeking work experience or building up their personal brand. ➡️ Find more via the "Athlete Personal Development" website https://lnkd.in/gtRz_Eua
