The New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) is the governing body for Rugby League in New South Wales and is a member of the Australian Rugby League Commission. It was formed on 8 August, 1907 and was known as the New South Wales Rugby Football League (NSWRFL) until 1984. From 1908 to 1994, the NSWRL ran Sydney's, then New South Wales', and eventually Australia's top-level rugby league club competition. Directly administering competitions including - The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup, Harvey Norman NSW Women's Premiership, Ron Massey Cup, Sydney Shield, Jersey Flegg Cup, UNE Harold Matthews Cup, UNE SG Ball Cup, SLE Laurie Daley Cup, SLE Andrew Johns Cup Harvey Norman Tarsha Gale Cup - the NSWRL continues to contribute to the development of male and female Rugby League talent. The NSWRL manages the Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues and the Harvey Norman Sky Blues, competing in Ampol State of Origin - one of the biggest annual events on the Australian sporting calendar.

The island nation of Niue will again be represented in the NSWRL's Harmony Nines tournament for 2024, fielding four teams including an Under 18s Boys side for the first time. The tournament kicks off this weekend, October 19-20, at Shellharbour's Croom Sporting Complex.

Another bumper season has come to a close for the NSWRL RISE Academy program, with five Gala Days held last month across NSW for boys and girls aged 13-16. RISE consists of five sessions for its participants, involving playing skills, training tips, a strength and conditioning component, nutrition and wellbeing advice.

After the success of last month’s weight-restricted Gala Day for Under 11s and Under 13s, run by the NSWRL, momentum is building for weight-for-age junior competitions in the near future. The event on Saturday 21 September at Riverwood Park, saw 194 boys and girls from Junior Rugby League clubs across Sydney taking part.

It was great see three members of the NSWRL’s Referees High Performance team receive well-earned appointments for NRL Grand Final day at Accor Stadium on Sunday 6 October. Kieren Irons will run the sideline as touch judge in the NRL State Championship with Dillan Wells on standby, while Karra-Lee Nolan has been named touch judge for the NRLW decider.
