Free wildlife strike database Avisure were global presenters in August, speaking on their free, serious accident database of ‘Fatalities and destroyed aircraft due to bird and other wildlife strikes,1912 to present’ at two international WHM conferences. Managing director of Avisure, Phil Shaw, gave an update on the database at the Australian Aviation Wildlife Hazard Group ’s forum in Melbourne and Jeff Follett, president Avisure International, addressed the Bird Strike Committee USA’s conference in Minneapolis/St Paul, USA. Avisure will present at the Australian Aviation Wildlife Hazard Group forum (13-15 August) in Melbourne next week. Phil Shaw, Avisure founder, and #NicholasCooper, airport operations and compliance manager at #BallinaByronGatewayAirport (BBGA) will open day 3 -15 August - when they present on ‘20 years of wildlife hazard management at Ballina Byron Gateway Airport’. When Avisure were engaged by BBGA in 2004, they were confronted with a range of wildlife hazards the likes of which they had not previously encountered. Phil and Nicholas will review the innovations that the Avisure/BBGA partnership have implemented to manage the wildlife strike risk over the past 20 years, including the recent application of avian radar – a first at any Australian airport. And again on day 3, Ronel Jit (MSc, PGD, BSc Environmental Science), Principal Environmental Scientist, will present on ‘WHM challenges posed by future technology: advanced air mobility (AAM) and vertiports’. The rapidly evolving AAM technology brings opportunities and challenges for WHM. Ronel will focus on the unique challenges of integrating vertical take-off and landing capable aircraft into urban and regional airspaces, with an emphasis on designing and managing vertiports. He will also discuss the robust regulatory frameworks, wildlife hazard assessments in vertiport and corridor planning, and adaptive operational strategies necessary to ensure the safe coexistence of emerging aviation technologies and wildlife. #AAM #wildlifemanagement #BallinaByronGatewayAirport #vertiport

We are contributing our flying fox expertise and knowledge of wildlife hazard management to a collaboration with researcher #DrManuelRuiz-Aravena of Mississippi State University and Robin Radar Systems. Dr Ruiz-Aravena is trialling the new technology in a flying fox tracking project in northern NSW to 'determine the likely causes of viral spillover from animals to humans'. We're hiring! We're looking for two #parttime #projectadministrators: one to be based in our Gold Coast office, and the other in Adelaide. The positions will be part of one shared role, working closely with your counterpart in the Gold Coast/Adelaide. The positions require three full days per week or FTE equivalent number of hours (24 per week) with one overlapping day (i.e. Mon-Wed, Wed-Fri). As an administrator, you will be responsible for project setup, report and presentation material preparation and branding, taking meeting minutes, project invoicing, and close-out.
