Today, on Remembrance Day, we honour those who defend our freedom. As a Defence company, we value our connection to veterans among us. The spirit of servitude to our nations runs together with Babcock’s core principles and purpose, to keep our region safe. Many of our team members are veterans, making today an important day for us to honour them. We also recognise those who serve as reservists and their families who support them. Thank you for your all sacrifices.

Our dedicated team members, Paul Howell, HF Technician, and Michelle Barnard, HF Supervisor from our Fixed High Frequency Radio Refresh team in New Zealand—both former members of the Royal New Zealand Navy—are demonstrating their commitment to honouring our veterans. In the lead up to Remembrance Day each year, the pair visit Taihape Cemetery, and spend a couple of hours cleaning the headstones of our fallen heroes. It’s inspiring to see current veterans committing time and effort to preserve the legacy of those who served. Their actions serve as a reminder of our duty to remember and care for those who have paved the way for us.

Babcock was delighted to support the 12th Biennial Submarine Institute of Australia (SIA) Conference 2024 as satchel sponsors. The conference, themed “Australian Submarines – Cornerstone of Deterrence,” featured an impressive lineup of both Australian and international speakers who will address the critical role of submarines and the industry's potential. Babcock has been a key contributor to this significant event, with our enduring partnership spanning almost a decade.

Babcock International Group’s approach to dismantling the Swiftsure submarine at Rosyth will set a global benchmark for sustainable practices for nuclear-powered submarines. The approach taken will ensure that 90% of the structure will be reused or recycled, and will see Swiftsure dismantled by 2026 ahead of the wider program to fully dismantle all decommissioned Royal Navy submarines. It is a world first and will spearhead the approach for the safe disposal for all ex-service nuclear submarines globally.
Working with the Defence Nuclear Enterprise, we’ve reached the next significant milestone to fully dismantle nuclear-powered submarine, Swiftsure, at our Rosyth facility. As part of the UK’s demonstrator project, we’re pleased to have recently awarded the recycling contract to Veolia UK. Our approach, which is a world first, applies new and innovative methodology enabling around 90% of the boat’s structure and components to be reused or recycled. Swiftsure remains on track to be dismantled by 2026 and will be the first decommissioned UK nuclear-powered submarine to be fully dismantled and disposed of. We’re proud to be leading the way and providing a proven approach for recycling of the current UK decommissioned fleet of submarines. https://lnkd.in/e346ZYsV Submarine Delivery Agency

In late October, we had the privilege of hosting Babcock’s Senior Leaders Dinner at the Marriott Hotel in Adelaide, celebrating the outstanding talent within the Australasia region. This event acknowledged our team's commitment to kindness, curiosity, and collaboration, while also recognising our recent Ignite Award winners from across the region. A significant highlight was the impactful keynote delivered by Dr. Richard ‘Harry’ Harris SC OAM, as he discussed his pivotal role in Tham Luang cave rescue. His narrative of teamwork and resilience serves as a powerful reminder that remarkable achievements stem from collective efforts.

A mast-erful achievement by the alliance partners within the Warship Asset Management Agreement (WAMA) Alliance. We’re proud to play our part in the ongoing sustainment of the Anzac Class frigates.
HMAS Parramatta – the final ship in the Anzac Midlife Capability Assurance Program (AMCAP) – recently had its new mast installed, as the 8-year upgrade program nears completion. The new mast is the eighth to be manufactured by BAE Systems Australia at the Henderson shipyard, through the Warship Asset Management Agreement partners Royal Australian Navy, BAE Systems Australia, Babcock Australia & New Zealand, and Saab Australia. As with the previous AMCAP upgrades, the mast will accommodate the CEA radar system. The new radar compliments the existing Anti-Ship Missile Defence (ASMD) radar system and is integrated into the existing Combat Management Systems of the ship by Saab Australia. The mast was lifted by a team of crane operators, riggers, fitters, superintendents, and a mechanical supervisor. It will now take around a month to complete the installation. HMAS Parramatta will then commence sea trials, ahead of a return to service during 2025. As the AMCAP program completes, WAMA is playing a pivotal role in transitioning the ongoing sustainment of the Anzac class to the Maritime Sustainment Model, including the Regional Maintenance Centre (West), to ensure the Anzac ships continue their pivotal role in defending and protecting Australia through #AusNavy.

We’re looking forward to exhibiting at this year’s EURONAVAL in Paris next week. If you’re attending, then join us at stand C27, where we’ll be showcasing how we design, build, assemble, maintain and upgrade international warships, delivering through life support across the globe and ensuring navies go to sea safely. We’ll have our Arrowhead 140 model on display, and our team of experts will be on hand to discuss how we support our customers with their critical operations. #EN24
