Baidam month is nearly over. We've spent this month lifting up some amazing Indigenous businesses and we hope that you'll take the time to extend your network and partner with some of these great organisations. Contributing to community and increasing the opportunities for mob starts with everyone making one small change, one small step. If everyone takes one small step, it becomes a movement. As one of the last official acts of Indigenous Business Month, we'd like to celebrate our ever humble Jack Reis. He's been nominated as a finalist in the Ethnic Business Awards Foundation in the 2024 Indigenous in Business Category. We'd also like to congratulate the other finalists, Jessica Staines from Koori Curriculum, Nathan Martin from Djurwa Recycling and Waste Management and Sue-anne Cutmore from Waminda South Coast Women's Health and Welfare Aboriginal Coorporation

As the theme of Indigenous Business Month is Making Your Mark, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate other Indigenous Businesses that are making their mark. Today, we’d like to lift up Football Queensland Indigenous Corporation, who are committed to strengthening the involvement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in mainstream Football Clubs and tournaments, and promoting health and wellbeing for Indigenous Youth through school programs. Football and other sports have long offered a pathway for Indigenous peoples to rewarding professional careers. The Football Queensland Indigenous Corporation played a crucial role in supporting young athletes’ careers in all areas of the game, including playing, coaching and refereeing. Their work has supported many young athletes and helped to provide strong role models for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander kids.

As Cyber Security Awareness Month comes to a close, we know that our industry has shared a lot of useful information and tips. However, according to the Australian Institute of Criminology First Nations Peoples generally experience cybercrime at twice the rate of non-Indigenous people. There is still work to be done to educate our mob and our wider community through continuing to share the knowledge that many of us just take for granted working in this industry. These statistics are humbling, and we know that this journey is just beginning to ensure real change is made.

As the theme of Indigenous Business Month is Making Your Mark, we’d like to take a moment to celebrate other Indigenous Businesses that are making their mark. Today, we’d like to lift up Kulpiyam Youth & Sport, a Torres Strait Islander-owned and led youth and sports organisation. Badu Kulpiyam founder, Uncle Jack AhMat, wanted to create a place for Badu Island peoples to come together. With so many family and community members living on the mainland in urban areas, this opportunity to reconnect and share culture helps maintain traditions and contributes to better physical and mental health.
