#PlasticFreeJuly has officially begun. We’re proud to join the global movement tackling plastic pollution this Plastic Free July. At Bared, we envision a future for footwear that's free from plastic. Sourcing 100% plastic-free materials for footwear is a difficult task. Unlike standard apparel, shoes endure constant impact, requiring highly durable materials. Plastic has been the go to material in footwear for far too long. You may not realise that 70% of the outsoles marketed as "rubber" are actually synthetic. Even where natural rubber is used in outsoles, it typically must be strengthened with petrochemical based curatives. In 2023, we proudly began the rollout of PLIANT™ outsoles across our women’s range. Developed by the innovators at Natural Fiber Welding, PLIANT™ soles are the world’s first naturally cured performance outsoles. 100% Plastic-Free. 100% Returns to Earth. Our partnership with NFW and the launch of PLIANT mark significant milestones in our plastic-free journey at Bared. And we’re just getting started.

We are grateful to have been joined this week by a First Nations representative from Children’s Ground who hosted a powerful truth-telling session for Bared team members in acknowledgment of Reconciliation Week. In the session, Bared team members came together from across the country to listen to hard truths about our shared histories, and to learn about the ongoing impacts of colonisation. Truth-telling sessions are a space to have raw conversations, whilst also celebrating over 65,000 years of rich First Nations history, strength, creativity, and resilience. Since 2020, Bared has proudly partnered with Children’s Ground to aid in their efforts to empower the futures of First Nations people through systemic, long-lasting change. We are thankful to the team at Children’s Ground for their time, knowledge, and stories - it was a truly impactful, and unforgettable experience for us all. Learn more about Children’s Ground below.
