  • Connecting volunteers with your organisation 🤝🏈 Last season, Sandringham Football Club (Sandringham Zebras) struggled to recruit volunteers. As a member of Bayside’s Volunteer Involving Organisation Networking Group, Sandringham Football Club raised this concern, prompting a partnership with local volunteering group, Brighton Evening VIEW Club (Voice, Interests and Education of Women). Teaming up for the last four home games, the football club split raffle ticket proceeds with VIEW, which also collected 10c from drink cans. VIEW donated funds it raised at these games to support five Smith Family students with uniforms, schoolbooks and other supplies. VIEW Club secretary Lorraine Holden said it was a wonderful experience of friendship, generosity and goodwill, with Sandringham Football Club Operations Manager Courtney Banks stating that the club can’t do what it does without volunteers. Council endeavours to support all of our community to get involved in volunteering, with a range of opportunities to suit different ages, abilities and interests in Bayside. 🔗 Read more: https://brnw.ch/21wR8iq [Image description: Sandringham Football Club Operations Manager Courtney Banks and VIEW Club secretary Lorraine Holden smiling with a football.]

  • Snorkellers seas the day! 🌊🤿 Each year during the January school holidays, Disabled Divers Association and Coastcare Victoria run two weekends of free snorkelling activities at Ricketts Point in Beaumaris. The program has been a recipient of the Bayside Community Inclusion grant stream and is supported by volunteers. More than 16 people living with disabilities came down to participate in this years' event; for some, it was the first time they had ever been in the bay or snorkelled. Feedback from one of our participants: "I found this day hugely emotional. As I was waiting to snorkel, I felt sad that I'd lost the ability to visit the beach and how, without help like this I couldn't even contemplate it. I was sad because I thought this would very likely be a one-off - I almost didn't want to enjoy it too much as losing it would be too painful. But as I was snorkelling, I was so amazed, delighted, and free that I pledged to myself that I MUST NOT allow this to be my only experience. I cannot thank you and the volunteers enough". Thank you to our Family, Youth & Wellbeing team for their work with this program. 🔗 We're proud to support a range of all-abilities sports programs throughout Bayside, which you can find out more about here: https://brnw.ch/21wR0su [Image description: A program participant smiling with a volunteer during a previous snorkelling session in the bay.]
