RESPONSIBLE GIVING IN AFRICA At Bench Africa, we’re often asked by clients and travel agents what they can take to Africa to improve the lives of those in need and to make a positive impact on the local communities they will visit. We tend to think about packing pencils and notebooks, or toothpaste and toothbrushes. As I learnt last year in Zambia from Mfuwe Lodge Guest Manager, the quantities required to ‘do good’ are generally more than the packing space we have available in our luggage. We can in fact create other issues if, for example, we don’t carry enough pencils to go around a class of school children. This is where the incredible Pack for a Purpose initiative comes in, connecting travellers with specific requirements identified by local projects. Their website provides a platform for our African travel partners to list required items and guidelines for responsible giving, from stationery supplies and sports items, to linens and sanitary products. Travellers then simply drop off the supplies at the participating accommodation where they will stay, and the donated goods are distributed when there is enough to satisfy the project’s needs. Visit their website now and share with any clients booked to visit Africa soon. A small act of generosity can make a significant difference.

Jambo and happy Monday! It has been mentioned (on more than one occasion!) that applying for Kenya visas can be a little... 'challenging'. So we hope this important update can help to start your week on the right foot if you have an application ahead of you, or are supporting a client through the process. Kenya's new (and long-awaited!) electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system is now up and running all for international travellers, including infants and children (except citizens of Kenya and EAC partner states). All travellers arriving into Kenya from 04 January 2024 are now required to apply for an online eTA at http://www.etakenya.go.ke prior to arrival. Full FAQs are available on the eTA website, but here are some key takeaways: * US$34 for standard processing. US$54 for fast-track processing. * Travellers can apply up to 3 months prior to travel and we recommend no less than 7 working days before travel. * It is mandatory to use the Government's official website to submit an application. Applications submitted via third-party websites will be automatically denied. * All pending eVisa applications already received in the old system (evisa.go.ke) will be processed and issued. * All eVisas already issued are valid for travel within their 90-day validity period and will be honoured on arrival. Please note that Bench Africa does not provide assistance with visa applications or visa advice. Visit http://www.etakenya.go.ke for more information, or share the link with your upcoming Kenya-bound clients!
