At Betfair Australia we recently celebrated Diwali with a vibrant lunch club, bringing together our team to honour the festival alongside our coworkers who observe it. Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, symbolises the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil - a perfect occasion to gather, learn, and enjoy a feast together. Thanks to Laajwab Indian Restaurant and EatFirst , we enjoyed delicious curries, samosas, lamb kebabs, naan bread, rice, and, of course, panipuri, which brought out everyone’s adventurous side as they learned how to enjoy this classic street snack! Another big thank you to Sandeep H. and Adrian Cox for organising and setting up the lunch. With amazing food, great company, and the warm spirit of Diwali, many have called it our best lunch yet. 🪔

Our latest intake of the Emerging Leaders program has successfully come to a close at Betfair Australia! This program is a key part of our broader Leadership program, alongside Leadership Fundamentals and Aspiring Leaders, designed to empower our high performing current leaders with the skills and knowledge for their next phase of growth. Throughout the program, participants explored six core modules including Leadership, Coaching, Agile Leadership, Commercial Capability and Change Management, all with the support of a mentor from within the business. Our recent Close Out session was a highlight as the team showcased their key learnings, shared the change initiatives they’ll be leading and reflected on their experience with their mentor. We’re looking forward to seeing the positive impact our Emerging Leaders will bring to Betfair!

A highlight of our Recognition Program at Betfair Australia is the monthly Back Awards. Team members nominate their peers who consistently go above and beyond, embodying our core Fair Plays of Courageous, Connector, Selfless and Accountability. The Winner is announced during our Town Hall to celebrate these achievements and share business updates. It was an opportunity to reflect on how we support one another in the workplace, followed by a catered Lunch Club to continue the conversation. #RUOKDay #PsychologicalSafety

Last Friday, the Melbourne team at Betfair Australia wrapped up the financial year in style at Fortress Melbourne! Our EOFY celebration was filled with fun, friendly competition, and plenty of gaming action. From Nintendo Switch classics like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros, to VR challenges with Beat Saber, intense laps on the racing simulator, or keeping it chill with card games, everyone had a blast! On the night, the winner and runners-up for our special Annual Back Award were announced. A huge shoutout to our winner Roy Ruiz and runners-up Tyler Carro and Daniel Otten for their incredible contributions and dedication.

At Betfair Australia, our commitment to understanding neurodiversity in the workplace is crucial to creating an inclusive environment where every individual can excel and bring their unique strengths to the table. We're grateful to have had auticon back in our office for a second workshop, building on the previous ‘Introduction to Autism’ session in April. This session, ‘Neurodiversity in the Workplace’, provided deep insights into Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, and Dyspraxia, focusing on how we can create more inclusive and comfortable environments through better communication and understanding. A huge thank you to Meredith and Jane from Auticon for leading the session, and to everyone who attended.

Today, we celebrated Horses' Birthday at Betfair Australia with a quiz and cupcakes! 🎂🐴   For those who may not know, Horses' Birthday is a tradition where all horses in the Southern Hemisphere turn a year older on August 1st. This day is particularly significant for us at Betfair, as it marks another year of exciting racing events.   Our team enjoyed a lively quiz competition covering Betfair trivia, horse racing and sports facts. Let's just say, some of us know our way around the track better than others! 🏇

The theme for NAIDOC Week 2024 is "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud," and this year, we were so fortunate to welcome the exceptionally talented Ron Murray to our Melbourne office. Ron generously shared his time and stories, taking us through the remarkable journey of his life. One of the highlights of the day was experiencing his captivating Didgeridoo performance - we are in good company with those who have experienced his talents with the likes of the Queen and Muhammad Ali! Following his presentation, we enjoyed a delicious catered lunch together from Pawa Catering and Events, a proud Indigenous-owned company that celebrates the rich flavors of native Australian ingredients.
