What an action-packed week in Taiwan at TIMTOS! From exploring the latest in CNC, automation and robot tech, to strengthening partnerships with some of the industry’s leading manufacturers including Tongtai Machine & Tool Co., Ltd., Samchully Workholding, Inc., HONOR SEIKI CO., LTD, FANUC, QuickTECH, GSA Technology and Barload Machine Co., it was a week full of innovation and opportunity. We had some great conversations about the future of manufacturing, and we’re excited about what’s ahead! Of course, it wasn’t all business—there was plenty of time to enjoy the sights, sounds (and food!) of Taipei with great company. Getting home wasn’t without its challenges, as everyone back in Australia was dealing with Cyclone Alfred—but we made it! Big thanks to Claire and Jonathan L. on the ground who kept things under control while we were away. Ben’s been in Taiwan signing off on a new Tongtai machine with auto pallet pool loading. Automation of this kind is the future—For this client, we’re replacing TWO machines with ONE highly efficient system, freeing up floorspace and boosting productivity! 💡 As the skilled labour shortage continues to impact manufacturing, more clients are turning to us for solutions that can help secure the future of their operations. The 8+1 tombstone vice and auto pallet pool system enables continuous loading and machining, reducing downtime and minimising the manual setup traditionally handled by machinists. By integrating this technology, our client can maintain efficiency and workflow, even in a challenging labour market. On this project, BJC has been working closely with Lionel at CNC Tech to ensure a smooth transition for the client into smarter manufacturing processes. Big Jonathan on the job! 💪 His solo install of this vertical machining centre for Torque Enterprises' new Wollongong factory was completed in 2 days! 🚀 We’ve been looking after Torque Enterprises Pty Ltd in Mackay for some time now. Having just expanded their operations into NSW, they reached out for a new CNC solution large enough to support the manufacture of components and servicing of their underground, unmanned mining vehicles in the region. Their first SMEC machine has just landed in NSW with Big Jon handling the commissioning and handover of this cutting-edge SMEC LCV 6700 with their operator. Torque Enterprises are familiar with the SMEC brand, already owning 5 machines in their Mackay facility—this SMEC was chosen for its structural design and capability for heavy-duty machining. Father and son out on site today! 🙌 Benjamin and Joe are servicing a large vertical mill for one of our valued customers. When dealing with machinery of this capacity, they tackle the big jobs that come with heavy-duty machining. Typical tasks include oil and filter changes, machine alignment and level checks, as well as pulling back covers to check lubrication and clearing swarf from those hard-to-reach places. But there’s a lot more to look out for during scheduled servicing on a machine of this nature. We’re excited to finally share one of our biggest automation projects yet… it's not every day we get to deliver technology of this capability! 🙌 Sharpe® shared with us their goal to improve manufacturing efficiencies for a specific product range. They wished to optimise their capacity to manufacture tubing swages, enabling larger runs while maintaining the flexibility to adapt the set-up for various product sizes and configurations. To suit their very specific needs, we developed a custom automation solution comprising of a new SMEC SL3500AM with a fully integrated Gantry System that will see Sharpe® streamline operations and increase productivity. Stage One involved delivery and installation of their new SMEC. Once the Gantry System arrived in Australia, Stage Two saw us back out in Roma with Jonathan and Benjamin working on the integration and final testing. Split over a few visits, commissioning took a total of 12 days. 👏 Huge credit to Ben, who played a key role in integrating the machine and gantry system, ensuring seamless communication between the two. This included a trip to Taiwan for testing and inspection, followed by set up and process validation at our facility in Brisbane—rather than on-site, 6 hours away in Roma. This preparation ensured a smooth and efficient commissioning for the client. Combining a 54-bar capacity loading station, this system enables lights-out, unmanned machining, and eliminates additional handling and multiple setups 💪 Mark Street, Head of Roma Operations for Sharpe®, shares “This system will increase our production while reducing the need for constant manual loading. Independent operation means our team can operate other machines while this machine runs itself.” He anticipates that this solution will manufacture each swage from start to finish, adding, “We were previously making this product on three machines, this SMEC can handle the entire production. We look forward to utilising this machine for other products as well!” Thanks to LIONEL KUHN, CNC Tech for his collaboration on this project, and to Sharpe Engineering for their support and trust.
