Helping organisations to create a culture of mentoring | Co-founder of Brancher | Organisational Psychologist

Informal vs. Formal mentors I've had some AMAZING informal mentors. It's great when you naturally connect with someone. However, not everyone finds these great mentors informally. A lot of people struggle to find a mentor who they really connect with, and someone who can really help them. A lot of organisations we speak with have informal mentoring. This is a great sign of a good culture. However, informal mentoring programs have the following challenges: - Lack of Structure - Unequal Access - Unclear Goals - Unbalanced Relationships - Lack of Formal Recognition - Inconsistent Experiences To learn more about why these are problems that informal mentoring programs face, read our latest blog. When formal mentoring programs are done right, the relationships can still feel authentic and genuine, especially when you consider personality and values when matching. #mentoring #mentoringsoftware #brancher #mentormatching #informalmentoring

When I used to run mentoring programs manually, before I started Brancher, I found it so difficult to measure success. We had no way of tracking meetings, engagement, satisfaction, goals, retention etc without doing a survey - and 6 months later, it was too late to step in and course correct. Every program administrator needs to be able to measure a mentoring program’s success. If you can’t prove the program is achieving its goals, there’s a chance that management will shut it down or the program participants will lose interest. By establishing clear measures of success from the start, you’ll be able to easily track your program’s progress and see how it’s working for your organisation. In this article, we’ll teach you how to achieve this. At the same time, we’ll highlight the different Brancher tools you can use to keep track of your program’s success. #mentoring #mentoringsoftware #brancher #mentormatching #measuringamentoringprogramsuccess

In 2023, this number further increased to 92%. And in 2024, the number of Fortune 500 companies with a mentoring program has skyrocketed to 98%. What are the other mentoring statistics in 2024 that are worth noting? In this article, we’ll be talking about how mentoring has become the third focus of Learning and Development (L&D) in LinkedIn Learning’s 2024 Workplace Learning Report. "I want to hold them captive all day long" There's a lot of negative press about Chris Ellison's comments regarding the strict implementation of keeping staff in the office. But can we take a moment to recognise the massive investment in workplace wellness behind this? 📌 An on-site gym for employees to use. 📌A restaurant within the headquarters. 📌On-site Medical Staff: Nurses and doctors available at the office. 📌Mental Health Support: Nine psychologists on the payroll to address mental health issues. 📌A childcare facility costing employees $20 a day, providing affordable childcare options. 📌Special Air Filtration System: A system that minimises germs within the building. 📌An art gallery available within the office. 📌On-site Chef: A chef to prepare meals for employees. We all know present ≠ productive. And productivity is more than a function of fancy workplace wellness benefits... it's a function of the person and their environment (and how much purpose, autonomy, mastery they feel, after their basic psychological needs have been met). I'd love to know the impact of these upgrades. So many companies we speak with are struggling with the pull of return to office vs. work from home. We recently published a blog article on workplace wellness, including how mentoring can support to drive wellness... link in comments below. Would love to hear your thoughts. #mentoring #mentoringsoftware #brancher #mentormatching #workplacewellnessprograms

Despite the many benefits mentoring offers, 63% of women have never had a formal mentor. Organisations that offer formal mentoring programs for women see increased retention and diversity outcomes. Mentorship is key to empowering women in the workplace, providing essential support for career development, resilience, and work-life integration. The best mentoring programs are customised for the individuals participating. In our latest blog we discuss how mentorship helps women in the workplace and why it can be particularly beneficial for women from marginalised or underrepresented groups, including single mothers, working mums, women of colour, LGBTQ+ individuals, and women with disabilities.
