Executives from some of the world’s largest airlines met in Brisbane last week for CAPA - Centre for Aviation Airline Leader Summit, charting a path for the industry over the next two decades. Virgin Australia’s Jayne Hrdlicka and Qantas International’s Cam Wallace headlined the program alongside international counterparts from Air India Limited, Thai Airways International, Air New Zealand, VietJet Air, Delta Air Lines and more. Brisbane Economic Development Agency (BEDA) and Brisbane Airport Corporation partnered in 2019 to launch an Enhanced Destination Marketing Program, pooling resources to stimulate inbound visitation from North America and Southeast Asia. BEDA also separately invests in a destination marketing representative in China. Over recent years we have seen a multitude of international airlines announce new direct routes into Brisbane, including United Airlines (BNE-SFO), American Airlines (BNE-LAX, BNE-DFW), Delta Air Lines (BNE-LAX), Jetstar Airways (BNE-NRT, BNE-KIX) and Qantas (BNE-MNL). These new services have contributed significantly to a record $10.6 billion visitor spend in Brisbane in 2023/24, and they helped secure 90 major conferences and business events last year, worth more than $100 million for the city. BEDA is the city’s official Convention Bureau, securing and supporting conferences and incentives to create successful and enduring outcomes for event organisers and local businesses alike. Collaboration and connection are at the heart of everything we do at Brisbane Economic Development Agency. Today the BEDA team came together to mark R U OK? Day, by taking a break to meaningfully connect, explore the power of empathy, with special guest Leanne Butterworth, and remind ourselves that starting a conversation with someone can make a difference and even save a life. You don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener. Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life: 1. Ask R U OK? 2. Listen 3. Encourage action 4. Check in 💙 Leanne Butterworth Empathy First | Empathy Training & Mentoring
