Last week, over two days BVSC had the pleasure of welcoming 57 students from the International Language and Training Agency in Japan. Currently studying various strands of veterinary animal care, these eager learners were excited to explore our facility. The visit began with an engaging presentation by our Primary Chemotherapy Nurse, Momoko, who showcased the key aspects of our operations. The students were then divided into two groups: one enjoyed a comprehensive tour of our hospital, while the other participated in an interactive CPR workshop led by our wonderful team members, Cheri and Paige. To ensure a well-rounded experience, we then switched the groups, allowing all students to engage with the full range of services and expertise that Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre has to offer, both for our patients and within the industry. #bvsc #bvsctheanimalhospital

At BVSC we love providing continuing education for our colleagues in the veterinary profession and last week we held our annual Nurse Tick Talk onsite at BVSC. Our evening was really well attended by veterinary nurses from all over Brisbane. BVSC speakers Dr Giles Helbig, (Hospital Veterinarian), Layla Coonan (Nurse Manager), and Mickey (Primary ICU Nurse) presented a very informative evening on how to manage tick cases which are often very difficult. Tick paralysis is very prevalent in our region of south east Queensland and providing expert care is very important. We would like to thank our sponsors for the evening, Boehringer Ingelheim, and all those who attended the evening. Ready to kick off at this year’s Science Week, BVSC’s Dr Marvin Kung (Small Animal Surgery Specialist) and Clement Choo (Radiation Therapist) are poised to present at the Pre-Conference Workshop on 'The Surgeon’s perspective on Stereotactic Radiation Therapy'. It's now over a year since BVSC installed the Varian TrueBeam at BVSC, so there is quite a lot to talk about. Let the 'games' begin!

At BVSC we held a Grand Rounds session this week on radiation therapy with a super turnout from our team. One year on from the installation, our radiation team focussed on the great advancements in veterinary treatments that the Varian TrueBeam Linear Accelerator has provided our animal patients. The presenters were BVSC’s radiation therapists, Julie Cathie, Nathan Ellemor and Clement Choo, along with Lead Radiation Veterinarian, Dr Kate Bruce. We are very excited to see what this technology can do in the future to further advance the survival and quality of life of our precious patients.
