Council is inviting current and former workers, community members and visitors to share their stories of East Water Tower, as part of the conservation management plan for the site. East Water Tower has been a significant visual landmark in Bundaberg for over 100 years, and many people in the community have strong ties to the iconic structure. Constructed in 1902, East Water Tower is the tallest circular brick water tower remaining in Queensland and was a key element in Bundaberg’s first reticulated water system. The community’s personal stories and memories will help Council to understand and celebrate the tower’s importance to the social history of the Bundaberg Region. About us
Bundaberg Regional Council was formed on the 15 March 2008 as a result of the merging of Bundaberg City Council, Burnett Shire, Isis Shire and Kolan Shire Councils. Bundaberg Region, strategically situated at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef and stretching from the Burrum River to Baffle Creek, is comprised of 6,451 sq km and is home to more than 94,000 people, with our population expected to grow to over 141,000 people within 25 years. Collectively, we are renowned for the friendliness of our residents, superb climate, affordable cost of living, first-class facilities, and relaxed lifestyle. Bundaberg's coastal region provides unsurpassed fishing, diving, beach and boating activities - these taking place against the backdrop of a rich sugar and horticultural belt. We enjoy close access to a number of seaside villages, stretching form Buxton and Woodgate Beach in the south, through to Coonarr, Elliott Heads, Coral Cove, Innes Park, Bargara, Burnett Heads and Moore Park Beach. Stroll along sandy stretches of beach, enjoy safe swimming year round, or discover the peace and tranquility of our beautiful seaside destinations. While Bundaberg is the commercial enterprise capital of the region, there are a vast range of visitor experiences and opportunities for new and current residents, within a short distance. At the region's southern gateway is the town of Childers, featuring the peaceful vibrancy of a provincial centre overlooking rolling hills of sugar, small crops and small industry. Similarly, the northern highway town of Gin Gin tells a fascinating historic tale with a genuine bush spirit, including the chance for freshwater fishing and weekend country escapes. Residents and visitors enjoy the spectacular natural landscape that forms Bundaberg region. The Bundaberg region is rapidly progressing to be a destination of choice - for residents, visitors and investors. https://www.bundaberg.qld.gov.au/council/social-media-terms-use

The current federal funding deal for councils was first introduced in 1974 – when Australian TV screens were still in black and white. 🙅 50 years later, the deal hasn’t changed. 🚧 Councils need more federal funding to run essential services for our community. 📣 Canberra, we need a new deal. We are adding our voice to a campaign to call for a fairer funding deal for you: https://lnkd.in/gGzqmWQT #localgovernmentassociationqueensland #LGAQ

Local businesses, community groups and accommodation providers can help shape the future of the region’s tourism industry by providing feedback as part of the Hotel Demand Study! Tourism and Hospitality Services Australia (THSA), on behalf of Council, has launched five surveys targeted at accommodation providers, professional conference and event organisers, business and community groups, hotel guests, and visitors.
