Business NSW is proudly supporting the ASEAN Summit being held in Sydney this week.
Panel chair David Harding, executive director at BNSW, said fostering trade with ASEAN was crucial for NSW businesses as it provided access to a vast and dynamic market.
“The region’s economic strength and rising consumer demand offer NSW businesses valuable opportunities to expand, boost their competitiveness, and build long-term partnerships,” he said.
“Strengthening trade ties with ASEAN can lead to greater export opportunities, investment prospects, and significant economic benefits for NSW.”
ASEAN is a key trading partner of Australia, with two-way trade totalling $183.4 billion in 2023 - more than our trade with Japan, the US, or the EU. Two-way investment with ASEAN reached $282 billion.
This year’s forum coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Australia-ASEAN partnership, highlighting the deepening economic ties between Australia and the region. It addressed critical topics like agriculture, food security, and renewable energy, with a focus on decarbonisation, digital transformation, the visitor economy, and health resilience.
