Chief Executive Officer at Business NSW

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of facilitating a panel discussion at a lunch with the NSW Premier Chris Minns, hosted by Business NSW Central Coast. We were joined by the Minister for the Central Coast, David Harris, and top business leaders representing major employers in our state.   Key topics included addressing the acute housing shortage on the coast, exploring opportunities to upgrade Wyong, Tuggerah, and Woy Woy to tier 1 planning precincts, and the progress of projects such as developing the Gosford waterfront.   It was great to engage with our leaders on these crucial issues, and I’m excited about the positive changes coming for our region.   #CentralCoast #NSW #BusinessNSW

Industrial relations changes affecting casual employment, union rights, enterprise bargaining and modern awards and independent contractors are set to have massive impact on business. Some laws have been here for months, while others – such as the right to disconnect – came in August 26 (small businesses are exempt for another year). Have any of these changes already impacted you? If so, let us know via a comment below or DM so we can help advocate to Government on behalf of all businesses. Your voice is crucial. #IndustrialRelations #CasualEmployment #UnionRights #EnterpriseBargaining #ModernAwards #IndependentContractors #RightToDisconnect #SmallBusinessExemption #Advocacy #BusinessImpact

Unaffordable insurance premiums are increasingly threatening the viability of NSW’s small and medium enterprises (SMEs). More than one in ten (13%) of SMEs say general insurance premium increases are putting the viability of their business at risk, according to 825 businesses who contributed to the latest Business Conditions Survey. One in four businesses have endured premium hikes of more than 30% in the past year. The latest BCS also reveals business confidence has gone down for the second straight quarter. Despite this, NSW businesses are demonstrating resilience, with 59% of firms planning to maintain the staff headcount and 17% looking to expand their workforce. #BusinessResilience #EconomicOutlook #NSWBusiness Read more: https://lnkd.in/gV-YwkrT

Business NSW is proudly supporting the ASEAN Summit being held in Sydney this week. Panel chair David Harding, executive director at BNSW, said fostering trade with ASEAN was crucial for NSW businesses as it provided access to a vast and dynamic market. “The region’s economic strength and rising consumer demand offer NSW businesses valuable opportunities to expand, boost their competitiveness, and build long-term partnerships,” he said. “Strengthening trade ties with ASEAN can lead to greater export opportunities, investment prospects, and significant economic benefits for NSW.” ASEAN is a key trading partner of Australia, with two-way trade totalling $183.4 billion in 2023 - more than our trade with Japan, the US, or the EU. Two-way investment with ASEAN reached $282 billion. This year’s forum coincided with the 50th anniversary of the Australia-ASEAN partnership, highlighting the deepening economic ties between Australia and the region. It addressed critical topics like agriculture, food security, and renewable energy, with a focus on decarbonisation, digital transformation, the visitor economy, and health resilience. #Business NSW #ASEANSummit #trade Mary Delahunty
