Thank you Max Maddison and the The Sydney Morning Herald. It was a pleasure to collaborate with Ed Cavanough Mathew Aitchison and Mark Morey on highlighting this opportunity for a new approach to housing funding and construction. Thanks also to the many scores of others across the property and superannuation sectors, manufacturing industry, unions and all levels of government who are engaging and generously giving advice. 🏡 Building a Better Future for Essential Workers in NSW! 🏡 Housing Now! is proud to stand alongside our alliance partners Business NSW, Unions NSW, and The McKell Institute in supporting an ambitious new plan to provide thousands of affordable, long-term rentals for essential workers. 🚀 With the leadership of David Harding, Mark Morey and Ed Cavanough this innovative initiative aims to harness the power of superannuation capital to construct housing on underutilized government land, creating a game-changing solution for NSW's housing crisis. Through off-site manufacturing, the project can reduce costs by more than 20%, paving the way for more efficient and cost-effective housing models. This bold vision isn't just about building homes—it's about creating pathways for essential workers to live affordably near their places of work and save for the future. By making housing more accessible, we can tackle the critical issues of affordability and supply that have plagued the industry for too long. 👏 A huge thank you to our partners and leaders for championing this forward-thinking policy. Together, we're building a better, fairer housing landscape for NSW. Chris Minns Paul Scully The Hon. Our state’s businesses might well get a fairer go when it comes to winning government contracts after a NSW Parliamentary committee released its final report into procurement. Business NSW’s Executive Director David Harding and Head of Policy Mustafa Agha appeared at the hearings earlier this year, calling on the NSW Government to break up large tenders into more manageable parts to enable smaller businesses to bid for them, as well as recommending a number of practical commercial measures to enable this to happen. We are pleased that the committee has recommended the significant changes to government, as well as endorsing the BNSW suggestion that small businesses get greater support to develop capacity, skills and expertise to win government contracts. Business NSW has been on this campaign for two years and will continue to stay close to the conversation. Last year, more than 130,000 businesses provided goods and services to the NSW Government, totalling about $42 billion. SMEs hold an $8 billion share, but we’re actively working with the government to boost that to at least $10 billion. This is a huge opportunity to use this more efficiently, and build capability and capacity in our SME economic foundations. The priority needs to be business doing what they do best - serving their customers. Plus, the taxpayers of NSW getting great local goods and services. Read the report here: https://lnkd.in/gMYymzt9
The power of women to unlock the nation’s economic potential was on full display last night at the Women in Leadership event at Business NSW’s Sydney HQ. Federal Finance Minister, Women and the Public Service Katy Gallagher was the guest of honour. Ms Gallagher discussed the Federal Government’s Future Made in Australia economic plan and the importance of females stepping into managerial roles to make that happen. Ms Gallagher also discussed the government’s program to encourage female entrepreneurship. Business NSW membership is 57% female, with the fastest growing cohort of business owners being women under 45. Apart from the desire to run their own business, many women are also looking to use owning a business as a platform into mid-career corporate roles. The event also featured contributions from ACCI CEO Andrew McKellar, Business NSW Executive Director David Harding and Business NSW Executive Director, Regional NSW and The Visitor Economy Paula Martin. Special thanks to sponsor ANZ and attendees including former NSW premier and senator The Hon Kristina Keneally Keneally, Aware Super Chair Christine McLoughlin AM and CEO Deanne Stewart, Governance Institute of Australia CEO Megan Motto 😊 Motto, Australian Retailers Association CEO Paul Zahra, Workplace Gender Equality Agency CEO Mary Wooldridge and Member Relations and Head - NSW at Australian Industry Group (Ai Group) Helen Waldron
