Cambrian Defence & Space has joined with One Giant Leap Australia Foundation to bring space education outreach to Pacific Island nations, by offering scholarships to Pacific Island students to attend the Global Space Challenge 2024. One Giant Leap and Cambrian aim to increase space capability, STEM and space science in the #IndoPacific region, creating opportunities and raising awareness of how space technology can assist with the region’s most pressing needs. A key aim is to bring space education and STEM to women and girls in the Indo-Pacific. Educating women in remote locations benefits entire communities, from public health to the local economy. The Global Space Challenge runs annually during Space Week, which this year operates from October 5 – 10. The SpaceX #PolarisDawn mission launched at 5:23am EDT from Launch Complex 39A at NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration Kennedy Space Center in Florida atop a Falcon 9 rocket for low-Earth orbit. The most ambitious private #space mission yet, which will see the first private #spacewalk.

Warships and personnel from over thirty nations arrive in #Darwin for Exercise Kakadu 2024. #KA24 is the 16th iteration of Exercise Kakadu, since its inception in 1993. Since then, the exercise has grown in size and complexity, with this year’s exercise including warships, helicopters and maritime patrol aircraft and more than 3,000 uniformed personnel. Royal Australian Navy Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Mark Hammond, AO RAN, welcomed the participants to Australia. “Kakadu is the largest and most significant international exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Navy, it deepens relationships and interoperability between participating armed forces. Australia is a maritime nation that, like our neighbours, derives prosperity from access to the sea - assured by a strong Navy and strong partnerships.” Vice Admiral Hammond said. The at-sea exercise program is complimented by a harbour phase comprising of briefings, a Fleet Commanders and Senior Leaders’ conference, ceremonies, and cultural, social and sporting events. The theme for this year’s exercise is ‘Regional Cooperation through Trusted and Proven Partnerships’.

Australia will participate for the first time in Orient Shield, the largest annual field training exercise between the U.S. Army and Japan Ground Self-Defense Force. Australia and Japan will also include the Japanese Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade, a marine unit of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, in annual training rotations of U.S. Marines in Darwin.
