International Women’s Day may be a designated day on the calendar, but the pursuit of equality and empowerment is a continuous journey. At Canon, we live our Kyosei philosophy by striving to create a culture where every voice is heard. This year’s IWD theme, March Forward, it’s time to turn promises into progress – inspires us to further this commitment.     As part of our program of International Women's Day activities at Canon Oceania, we spoke with a diverse group of women to share their perspectives on this year’s theme. These women spoke on progress and turning promise into action.   While each story is unique, the collective message is clear – progress required sustained effort, allyship and a shared commitment for a better future for all women. Known for her novels including Unfinished Business, Safe Haven and Chai Time at Cinnamon Gardens which won the 2023 Miles Franklin Literary Award, Shankari’s work reflects her dedication to social justice. As an Australian Tamil, she continues to make a significant impact in law and literature, advocating for diverse voices and gender equality. ·       Dr Nici Sweaney, A globally recognised leader in ethical AI, she has nearly two decades of experience as an academic scientist and data strategist. As the founder of AI Her Way and a Senior Fellow for the AI for Developing Countries Forum, she shapes global discourse on AI’s role in sustainable development. ·       Rachel Bach, A leading PRO sports photographer and videographer, breaking barriers in the male-dominated world of sports media. Based in Melbourne and known for her unique storytelling under By the White Line, she’s covered major events like the Soccer World Cup and Asian Cup. As the Matildas' in-camp photographer, Rachel champions women in sports and collaborates with brands to tell their stories. Each bringing their own diverse experiences, our employees were moved listening to their powerful stories of becoming who they are today, and their unique perspectives on this year’s UN Women Australia theme, March Forward, it's time to turn promises into progress. As we show our appreciation for our employees ahead of Employee Appreciation Day, we wanted to celebrate the contributions of an individual who started with us nearly 25 years ago, Helen Lehman. In 2000, Helen began her journey with us as a Consultant in the Camera Services department and has been an integral part of the business ever since. Celebrating this incredible milestone, Helen shared this with us: Q: What do you like most about working at Canon? A: Working with the different teams across the business. I have daily interactions with various departments, and I find that no two days are quite the same, so it keeps it interesting. Q: What’s been a standout highlight for you at Canon? A: It would be the first Christmas parties here at Canon. It was a big family thing with partners invited, and everyone would turn up and have a great time. One party that comes to mind was 50s themed, and it was a lot of fun – I dressed up as a diner chick, without the roller skates! Q: Anything else you’d like to share? A: I’d love to thank Canon for the past nearly 25 years, it’s brought me out of my shell a lot and I’ve made a lot of friends here. It was an exciting morning yesterday at Macquarie Park, Canon Australia's headquarters.   Our employees were joined by eight Japanese university students and their professor who have been visiting Australia for the past week meeting with various businesses across Sydney.   The fun-filled morning had the students hearing about Canon Australia and they had the opportunity to tour our showroom, try out some of our kit, and see a group photo we took being brought to life with our Selphy printer.  Wrapping up the visit, some of our employees from across our sales and marketing teams joined the students for lunch where the students got to share their career aspirations and their time in Australia. #CanonAustralia
