Did you know that up to 1 in 3 survivors of heart events or procedures experience severe anxiety, and up to 1 in 5 experience depression around the time of their event. Emotional recovery is just as important as physical healing, an important message this #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth. 🫀 🧠 Unfortunately, those who experience post-event mental health problems, such as anxiety or depression, have poorer recovery than those who do not, with higher rates of hospital readmission, and earlier mortality. Mental health issues can inhibit patients from actioning health enhancing lifestyle modifications such as increasing physical activity, making dietary changes, quitting smoking, taking medications and seeking appropriate medical care. Timely access to cardiac rehabilitation programs is an essential part of the recovery process for all heart event survivors. Studies have shown patients who participate in a quality cardiac rehab program see significant improvements in both physical and psychological outcomes, reducing depression, anxiety, and distress. The opportunity to participate in a personalised virtual care program that offers flexible access at the time and place that works for the patient is another important consideration for health services looking to deliver support for those on their recovery journey. 💻❤️ At Cardihab we are proud to deliver virtual #cardiacrehab programs that support the emotional and physical recovery of patients post heart event, along with our strategic partners Australian Centre for Heart Health & Heart Support Australia. Our partners offer the below support services that can be accessed to help support vulnerable patients following a heart event or procedure: ❤️ Enrolling in peer-led group support programs can have a profound impact on the psychosocial recovery of those who have experienced a heart event, offering a sense of connection and understanding that family and friends often can't provide. Heart Support Australia offer a comprehensive #peersupport program designed to help patients build connections and ensure ongoing care in their communities. ❤️ The Australian Centre for Heart Health develop and coordinate a range of programs for patients to help address the significant issue of mental health after a cardiac event. Education around the links between mental health and heart disease are critical in ensuring timely intervention. The ‘Cardiac Blues’ is a condition which affects up to 80% of survivors with symptoms of shock, anxiety, fear, worry, sadness, and anger, which can be likened to a grief or bereavement response. The Centre offers a specialist cardiac psychology service in its Cardiac Counselling Clinic. 🌍❤️ This Sunday, on #WorldHeartDay, we're reminded of the toll #cardiovasculardisease (#CVD) takes globally – claiming over 20 million lives annually, many of them prematurely. In Australia, where cardiac disease remains a leading cause of death, it is critical to act now for a future where affordable and sustainable care is available for all. This is a significant public health issue requiring urgent action. World Heart Federation President, Daniel José Piñeiro recently called for a strategic Cardiovascular Health Action Plan that goes beyond treating heart disease; it focuses on prevention, early intervention, and addressing every phase of care for every citizen. As he notes, "Tailored health action plans are key to promoting cardiovascular health for all." At Cardihab we see firsthand the immense value of accessible, long-term support for patients post-heart event. But more needs to be done, and we need governments to prioritise #hearthealth as a pillar of public health strategy. By committing to affordable, sustainable solutions that include both clinical care and preventative measures, we can drastically reduce the burden of heart disease in our communities. This World Heart Day, let’s advocate for a healthier, more heart-conscious Australia. #SustainableHealthcare #WHF #HeartDisease #Prevention #cardiacrehab #UseHeart #DTx Helen Souris Christine Kwong RN CHIA John Rivers Hugh Dawkins Paul Butler Caroline White Sonya Kahler Maha Khalaf

A recent data linkage study from South Australia highlights significant disparities in referrals to cardiac rehabilitation (CR), with women being up to 75% less likely to receive a referral compared to men. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gXF6b6dp Historically, #cardiovasculardisease (#CVD) has been perceived as a “men’s disease.” While women have a slightly lower incidence of CVD, they often face higher mortality rates and worse outcomes after an acute cardiovascular event. Cardiac rehabilitation is proven to improve quality of life and save lives, but these benefits can only be realized if more patients are referred, participate, and complete the programs. Traditional, clinic-based CR programs often lack flexible timing and location options and are typically attended by more men than women. Several factors contribute to women’s lower #participation in CR, even when referred. These include underestimating their risk, prioritising others over their own health needs, logistical barriers and feeling uncomfortable in group CR sessions. Program flexibility is therefore an important consideration for women. We’re proud to offer a Digital Cardiac Rehabilitation solution that meets the needs of all patients and enables: ❤️ Flexibility – Accessible at the time and place that best suits the patient ❤️ Individualised – Care plans are tailored to individual needs and inclusive of women specific health related issues ❤️ One-to-one care – Patients receive personalised support through regular telehealth reviews with their clinician By providing more options, especially digital CR solutions that are designed to enhance personalisation and flexibility, we can improve heart health outcomes for women and close the gap in CR participation. Our partnership with Mater in #NorthQueensland has again made the news recently for its impact in enhancing #equitablecare throughout the region. "Mater believes every patient has the right to receive world-class healthcare whether they live in Brisbane or the bush," Mater Townsville Acting General Manager Anna Olson said. "New technology is making that aim a reality: It's having a transformative impact by bringing expert care and support straight into the homes of patients." Cardihab CEO Helen Souris says, “Through this successful pilot we have received strong support from health services across the state that valued access to our virtual #cardiacrehab program, and touching letters from patients that have personally experienced the benefits of our program. “This initiative showcases the impact of government investment in enabling partnerships in healthcare innovation to deliver meaningful impact to those who need it most, regardless of location. The recent inclusion of digital health solutions in the Heart Foundation and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand Acute Coronary Syndrome Clinical Guidelines strengthens the call to action for continued support and funding for validated #digitaltherapeutics to advance healthcare accessibility, reducing disparities in #patientoutcomes between urban and rural populations.” The program was initially funded thanks to a grant from the Department of Environment, Science and Innovation and Advance Queensland. It has helped to deliver virtual cardiac rehab to hundreds of patients across thousands of kilometers, as far west as Mt Isa and as far north as Weipa. Well done as always to the team leading this effort to pioneer new ways of delivering care. ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ Read more 👉 https://lnkd.in/gMZvZt5T #digitalhealth #partnerships #investment #AcuteCoronarySyndrome #DTx #cardihab Shaun Whiley Gabrielle Dockray Fiona Hinchliffe Maree Knight Alanna DeGraaf Caroline White Christine Kwong RN CHIA Maha Khalaf George Lambrou Tim Fortin John Rivers Paul Butler Hugh Dawkins

👏👏 This is a wonderful resource from the Heart Foundation, and great insight from Dr Rosemary Higgins MAPS FCHP on the common yet often overlooked psychological challenges people face after cardiac events - the #CardiacBlues. It affects up to 80% of cardiac event survivors and yet very few people know where to get help. We’re very proud to partner with the dedicated team at the Australian Centre for Heart Health including Alun Jackson, Dr Rosemary Higgins MAPS FCHP, Barb Murphy who specialise in supporting people with the Cardiac Blues, and are dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of #mentalhealth conditions affecting those with #heartdisease. Through this partnership we have made the Centre's valuable mental health resources available through our apps, to all people participating in our cardiac rehabilitation and care programs. ❤️ 👉 https://lnkd.in/g5c7HUfa Helen Souris Christine Kwong RN CHIA Sonya Kahler George Lambrou Alanna DeGraaf Caroline White #bettertogether #collaborating #cardiacrehab #cvd #digitalhealth https://lnkd.in/guzhmPKR

Cardihab reposted this
ANDHealth+ alumni news: Cardihab has achieved BSI certification to ISO/IEC 27001:2013 to demonstrate its commitment to the highest standards of governance, regulatory compliance and risk management. Cardihab's digital cardiac rehabilitation (DCR) solution uses smartphone apps and web portals that enable clinicians to deliver – and patients to access – more convenient, flexible and engaging rehabilitation services. The certification shows Cardihab's customers, including major insurance companies, that it has built a robust information security management system (ISMS) that delivers its DCR solution securely. Users (clinicians and patients) can be similarly reassured that medical details and personal information will remain private. We were proud to support Cardihab to achieve certification to ISO/ IEC 27001:2013 as part of its ANDHealth+ stage two projects. “Achieving BSI certification to ISO/ IEC 27001:2013 is an important step in the recognition of the strength of our operations and systems in meeting the rigour of international security and compliance standards. A huge amount of planning, training, assessment, evaluation and time is invested in our governance practices and this certification demonstrates our commitment to our customers, patients, partners and shareholders.” – Helen Souris, CEO, Cardihab Learn more in this BSI case study: https://loom.ly/3YiP3pg

Congratulations to Asmita D. on being nominated as a finalist for the Cardiovascular Nursing Prize at #CSANZ2024 over the weekend. 👏 Asmita's presentation on 'Reasons for non-participation in a nurse-led mHealth secondary prevention program for Coronary Artery Disease' highlighted opportunities for better identification of reasons for non-participation, and the process of developing interventions to address these. The results were part of the Risk-guided CAD study led by Associate Professor Melinda Carrington from the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute. The study utilised the Cardihab platform for higher risk CAD patients who are deemed to be more likely to be readmitted. 🚀 Exciting News from CSANZ! 🚀 We are thrilled to announce the release of new guidelines and recommendations on the use of digital health in cardiovascular risk management. These guidelines emphasize the importance of a person-centred approach to secondary prevention for individuals with Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS), both with and without revascularisation. 🌟 Key Highlights: 1. In-Hospital Referrals: Patients with ACS should be referred to exercise facility-based outpatient cardiac rehabilitation programs. Studies show these programs significantly reduce the risk of myocardial infarction (MI) and all-cause hospital admissions (Dibben, Faulkner et al. 2023). 2. Digital Health Interventions: Integrating digital health tools like reminders, text messaging, mHealth apps, telehealth consultations, wearable devices, and electronic decision support tools can enhance cardiovascular risk management post-ACS (Chow, Redfern et al. 2015; WHO 2018; Tromp, Jindal et al. 2022). 3. Cultural and Psychosocial Considerations: Providing access to trained cultural health workers for First Nations Peoples and bilingual educators for non-English speakers is crucial. Additionally, addressing psychosocial needs such as depression, anxiety, and social isolation using validated tools is essential. Our platform exemplifies these digital health interventions, offering seamless, patient-centred care and support. Together, let’s embrace these advancements and drive better outcomes for patients through innovative digital health solutions! ❤️ Remember to drop by to see our team - Helen Souris Alanna DeGraaf George Lambrou - today at stand 115!
