About us

CareFlight is an Australian aeromedical charity, established in 1986. CareFlight's mission is to save lives, speed recovery and serve the community by providing the highest standard of rapid response critical care. We use helicopters, aeroplanes and medi-jets to bring a hospital level of care to the critically ill and injured. Our aircrew, medical teams and coordinators work closely together to ensure that patients receive the best care as soon as possible. It's about bringing the right team to the right patient at the right time. CareFlight doctors and nurses are specially trained in pre-hospital and transport medicine. They care for severely injured patients who need emergency treatment at the scene of the incident. They also transport seriously ill patients who need to be moved between hospitals. CareFlight has a strong focus on education. We hold teaching accreditation with the critical care colleges of anaesthesia, intensive care and emergency medicine. Over the years CareFlight has trained hundreds of critical care specialists in the unique and challenging environment of pre-hospital and transport medicine. Everything CareFlight has achieved over the years has been with the support of the community we serve. That loyal and generous support has made it possible for CareFlight to spread our wings across Australia and beyond. We rely on our many partners and friends to provide the resources to make the CareFlight difference.

  • Our Nutrien Ag Solutions #EmergencyTraumaTraining, powered by CareFlight is well underway for 2025!    The team has already visited locations all over Australia including Corowa, Young, Gunnedah and Nygan, equipping attendees with vital skills taken from real-life situations – so they are empowered to act quickly if an accident happens.    The courses, which are taught by clinical professionals, build knowledge, skills and confidence that improve long-term patient outcomes and build resilience in agricultural communities.    Every minute counts at a traumatic incident, especially if medical services are hundreds of kilometres away, which is why this program is so vital to helping deliver life-saving assistance in agricultural settings.   Pictured are attendees at the recent Kaniva ETT learning how to respond to a motor vehicle accident using the CareFlight CrashSim.

  • Mounties Care CareFlight Helicopter marks 1,000 missions during landing at Parliament House.   The Mounties Care CareFlight Helicopter landed at Parliament House in Canberra yesterday, to celebrate an historic five-year sponsorship and funding commitment from Mounties Group.  The lifesaving commitment from profit-for-purpose organisation Mounties Group goes above and beyond the existing naming rights sponsorship of the H145 helicopter. It will support CareFlight across a variety of other operations over coming years, including the training programs delivered to emergency response volunteers in regional and rural communities with the goal of building resilience in local communities around Australia.  In an important reflection on the significance of the commitment, the event recognised the milestone of the Mounties Care CareFlight Helicopter being tasked by NSW Ambulance more than 1,000 times within the Sydney Basin area of operations since Mounties Care became naming rights partner.  We were honoured to hear the kind words from the Federal Government’s representative The Hon Emma McBride MP, and to share more about CareFlight and Mounties aligned goals to serve the Australian communities with the MPs and Senators that attended including those pictured Dr Anne Webster MP, Anne Stanley MP, The Hon Michael McCormack MP, Alison Byrnes MP, Sam Birrell MP and Dr Gordon Reid MP alongside members of the CareFlight and Mounties team.

🎉 Achieving More Together: A Year of Innovation, Impact, and Community Service 🚁 At CareFlight, collaboration is essential to ensuring we’re always ready to respond to emergencies across the Northern Territory. Each year, we conduct several multi-agency training sessions with NT Police Search and Rescue and Surf Life Saving NT. The comprehensive training sessions, build on techniques, essential for effective and safe transfer of personnel and equipment, across land and water in remote, hard-to-access areas. These joint exercises include deploying life rafts, recovering people from the water, and transferring medical teams and equipment to small vessels. Training together enhances the skills and coordination needed for real-life search and rescue missions, where swift, seamless responses can save lives. “We operate in a challenging environment, where vast distances compound the problems of people in distress,” said Grant Pitman, Senior Base Aviator at CareFlight Top End. “These exercises are part of our preparedness and enable us to maintain readiness to respond across the Top End”. In 2023/24 alone, CareFlight supported over 14 SAR missions, from assisting ill passengers aboard cruise ships to responding to boating emergencies. With ongoing collaboration and training, we remain committed to keeping our community safe. Surf Life Saving Northern Territory

  • Achieving More Together: A Year of Impact, Innovation, and Care In 2024, CareFlight has remained committed to the health and wellbeing of the communities we serve. We’ve delivered over 7,000kg of fresh fruit to remote communities across the Top End, helping ensure access to essential nutrients where it’s needed most. This initiative is just one part of our ongoing mission to support healthier, stronger communities. Beyond providing lifesaving medical care, we’re proud to deliver essential resources that can help improve health outcomes in these remote areas. Every day, we fly into several remote communities to treat and transport critically ill and injured patients, and we’re always looking for new ways to make a difference in the lives of those we serve. A heartfelt thank you to the Woolworths team for their invaluable support in making this possible. Woolworths Supermarkets

  • Did you know CareFlight provides medical escorts on scheduled commercial long-haul flights? Recently, members of the CareFlight clinical team travelled to China and Cambodia to bring patients back to Australia followed by a trip from New Zealand to Japan.   These transfers were coordinated as part of CareFlight’s Medical Escort service where highly experienced professionals accompany patients and their relatives to their home or destination hospital on scheduled commercial long-haul flights when clinically appropriate.    All CareFlight’s clinicians are Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA) registered Medical Practitioners or Nurses and all missions have clinical oversight from a CareFlight Specialist Doctor, ensuring all aspects of planning take the patient’s care needs into consideration so patients are in very safe hands. Our clinical teams are available throughout the year and this service remains available in the lead up to and over the Christmas break.   To learn more, visit https://lnkd.in/gS6a5V72. And, if you’re travelling this festive season, remember to book travel insurance – this will help ensure that you or your loved ones can make it home safe if the worst were to happen while you’re away.
