I am honored and thrilled to be speaking at the 'Women in Tech' event organized by the Graduate Student Association (GSA) at the University of Melbourne. I look forward to sharing my journey, from my early days as a Bachelor's student in Electrical Engineering to my current role as a full-time Post-Doctoral Data Scientist at Cortical Labs. This event is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the challenges and triumphs along the way and to connect with others who are passionate about driving change and innovation in technology. Join us on August 22nd to celebrate and uplift the voices of women in tech! More details about the event can be found here: https://lnkd.in/g-bKXh_Z #WomenInTech #GSA #Unimelb #TechInnovation #Empowerment

Will we ever understand how consciousness arises and what would it mean if we did? In a new paper co-authored with Dr Alon Loeffler, A. Prof. Lomax Boyd from Johns Hopkins University and Prof Julian Savulescu from University of Singapore we propose an iterative process for investigating morally relevant states like consciousness in neural systems, ranging from single cells to intact brains by using cells in a dish in game environments. Developing tools like we do at Cortical Labs that allow you to explore how cells behave in different simulated environments is incredibly unlikely to give rise to consciousness in these very simple systems, but it does offer a way to simplify the otherwise impossible complexity that exists in the brains of animals and offer a pathway forward to try better understanding the neural basis for a range of different states. You can check out this paper here: https://lnkd.in/g7qqdTMD

It's not often you're afforded an audience with royalty, but then it's not often you come across a company like Cortical Labs. At Mobile World Congress in Barcelona this week, Cortical Labs and its founder Dr Hon Weng Chong was hand-selected as one of five startups globally, to pitch their innovation to an audience that included The King of Spain. This recognition is a testament to the incredible strides Australian innovation is making on the global stage. We’re excited to witness the impact you'll continue to make! #biotech #biocomputing #DishBrain #mwc2024
