Director Customer and Corporate Services at City of Casey

At the City of Casey our Customer Service team handles 1000s of contacts daily, across such a broad range of issues that I am not sure too many other industries would handle such diversity. Despite this complexity our team never waivers from its commitment to serving our community with pride and helping our customers get what they need done quickly and efficiently. As a growing municipality with over 400,000 residents the last few years have highlighted that our customer service operating model needed to change. So as part of our Transformation Program we have lifted the lid and thought deeply about how our customer service operations can be sustainable and effective into the future. I am proud to announce that after months of impressive collaborative effort our new Customer Service Delivery Model kicked off last week! The team addressing our initial cohort of enquiries and request types could not wait to get started, and our waste, city and asset planning, and infrastructure and open space service teams have been right there beside them making our new approach a success. The hard work that has gone into ensuring the team are well prepared with refreshed processes, contemporary technology, and an awesome leadership and project team to support them is most definitely paying off. Go team! None of this would have been possible without the perseverance of some key people, so thank you to everyone who has been involved – with a special shout out to Donna R., Owen Gwynne, Katie Fitzgerald, Verity Peterson, Deb Divers and the whole Transformation Team. I cannot wait to see this new model come to life and lead the way in local government customer service operations.

Meet Keri New, City of Casey’s Manager of City and Asset Planning! Kerri is on the Connected Libraries Board, which determines policy and monitors performance of the library service. We asked Keri some questions about herself and her role. Can you explain your role as the Manager City and Asset Planning?   I lead the department responsible for the strategic infrastructure planning for Casey. This cuts across parks, sports reserves, roads, drains, community facilities, kindergartens and much more. We prepare strategy plans for this infrastructure, program projects into our capital works program, apply for grants and ensure we are allocating enough funds to renew infrastructure when it needs it.   It is a balancing act between the needs of Casey’s 400,000 (and growing) residents, the funding we have to maintain and renew an existing $4.1 billion worth of assets, as well as building new infrastructure for new communities.   There is lots of financial accounting, recording, reporting and consultation needed to ensure we have a reasonable balance. We also respond to many customer queries about Casey infrastructure.    What are your interests outside of work?   I have two children who generally take up most of my time, especially in football season. Camping, walking in nature or with our dog, gardening and of course I love to read… What’s your go to recommendation of a good read, good watch or good listen?   I use my tablet to download all kinds of books, mainly fiction, using the Borrowbox app (shameless plug for online library resources). A fabulous audiobook is Love Stories by Trent Dalton. The stories he captured were so moving. Meet the rest of the board here- https://lnkd.in/eDhd5tNT #connectedlibraries #cityofcasey

Manager City and Asset Planning - Livability | Community | Sustainability | Equity

I have been honoured to serve on the board of #connectedlibraries and its previous iteration since 2022. It links two of my passions: providing spaces that people can learn and connect, and good governance. And libraries have always been my happy place, even back in primary school I had great fun doing the job of book monitor #dewydecimalsystem
