The Buchanan Road Overpass and Corridor Investment is critical infrastructure to support our growth and connect Moreton Bay’s transport networks to major state roads. Upgrading to a four-lane arterial road between the Bruce Highway and Morayfield Road will provide a vital east-west link across our city. We welcome the Labor Party's commitment, if elected, to fund the Buchanan Road business case, complementing the Queensland Government’s $7 million contribution towards the detailed design phase. Copper theft is rising at an alarming rate, putting significant financial burden on our sporting clubs, organisations, and ratepayers. We welcome the Labor Party's commitment to changing legislation, if elected, ensuring that copper sales only go through licensed scrap metal dealers, with all transactions made electronically. Queensland is the only eastern state without these ‘no cash for scrap’ measures in place under the Second-hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers Act 2003. We're leading the world's first in-network trial of the new Fauna Escape Hatch, and it's already making a difference for our local wildlife! 🐨🌿 City of Moreton Bay has purchased and installed 16 new Fauna Escape Hatches throughout our Green Infrastructure network to help koalas exit the road corridor without being able to return. This is especially important right now during breeding season when koalas are on the move looking for a mate and are vulnerable to vehicles. We’ve already seen encouraging signs from koala cams, which have captured footage of a koala trying and failing to re-enter the road corridor. We hope this innovative new device can offer year-round protection for the wildlife that calls Moreton Bay home. We’re already planning to purchase more to provide greater protection for our furry friends! 🐾 A big thank you to the Endeavour Veterinary Ecology who designed the Fauna Escape Hatch at their Moreton Bay headquarters, and to Department of Transport and Main Roads for supporting the program. A great collaboration between two levels of government and an industry-leader in wildlife services.
