Following positive trial feedback over the last 18 months from the public and local businesses, we've given the green light for the next stage of the Street-Side Dining project. The project, which introduced expanded outdoor dining spaces to help support small business navigating out of COVID19, has been praised for adding vibrancy to the city’s streets and attracting more visitors and locals. A City of Hobart survey showed 94% of the public and 88% of surrounding businesses supported the trial. The three trial sites at Simple Cider, Straight Up Coffee + Food, and Pilgrim Coffee will be reinstalled with durable materials and will remain in place for five years. We're working on developing a formal Street-Side Dining Program with guidelines for other traders interested in creating their own outdoor dining areas, ensuring the streets remain functional and safe. Craig Garth is our very own Chief Remote Pilot here at the City of Hobart. He runs all the drone operations and is the main person behind the controls. From snapping beautiful shots of Hobart to checking solar panels and making 3D maps, Craig's drone skills help the city get a lot done. State of the City data dashboards are live on our website! Ever wondered what makes our city tick? We do. All the time. Decisions we make are based on data we collect either directly from you in the community (via in person or online engagements) or through the use of external data sources like the Australian Bureau of Statistics and others. To make it easy for community members, developers, business owners and others to also use the data, we’ve created a one stop data shop all about Hobart that is now live on our website. Recently the team at Lady Gowrie Tasmania contacted us to thank our cleansing team for providing joy to the children at the Battery Point childcare centre. The cleansing team regularly clean the streets surrounding the centre and the drivers often take the time to show the sweepers in action while the children look on, happily waving and smiling. After receiving the thank you from Lady Gowrie we arranged a special visit by some of our wonderful cleansing team members.
