Western Australian followers please sign this e-petition initiated by friend of Co-operation Housing and homelessness advocate Allan Connolly MICDA asking the Legislative Council to urgently call on the State Government to: 1. Declare a State of Emergency on housing and homelessness in Western Australia. 2. Immediately implement bold measures to increase the supply of affordable housing at scale. 3. Provide additional support and resources to homelessness and social housing services. 4. Develop and enact long-term strategies clear and transparent targets and progress reporting to prevent housing insecurity and homelessness. 5. Launched at the Australian Co-operative Housing Alliance (ACHA) 2024 Co-operative Housing Summit today is a report on the Business Council of Co-operatives and Mutuals (BCCM) European Co-operative Housing Tour. Based on what was learnt during the tour, the report recommends the following to increase the number of housing co-operatives in Australia: - mandate a percentage of build-to-rent projects be earmarked for rental co-ops; - stipulate a target to achieve 10% share of all community housing; - set up a dedicated line of credit for housing co-ops under the Housing Affordability Future Fund (HAFF); and - have a stipulation that rental housing co-ops be developed by limited, or not for profit, organisations. Co-operation Housing is excited to announce that it has entered into discussions with Development WA, the WA State Government's central land and development agency, about the development of Lot 9000 Moore Street in Manjimup. Co-operation Housing was selected as the preferred proponent from submittors to Development WA's Regional Build to Rent (BTR) EOI, where proponents were asked to submit proposals that would deliver a BTR model that can be replicated throughout regional WA. Our aim is to develop a BTR community that is sustainable and permanently affordable, using the co-operative housing model. When developed, Lot 9000 will potentially provide up to 60 affordable rental houses for families, singles, essential workers and is envisaged to include shared facilities and visitor accommodation. Co-operation Housing will be conducting our initial community consultation on the 25th and 26th of October, to provide information about the opportunity, and to gain an understanding about the Manjimup community's housing needs.
