With the ‘right to disconnect’ laws now in effect, it’s crucial for both employees and employers to navigate this shift thoughtfully.

The new “right to disconnect” laws in Australia, effective today for businesses with more than 15 employees, as reported by Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) are a significant shift in promoting work-life balance. These laws empower employees to refuse work-related contact outside their working hours, aiming to curb the “always-on” culture. • For Employees: This is a much-needed reset, allowing the reclaiming of personal time and the establishment of clearer boundaries, especially after the pandemic blurred these lines. • For Employers: While respecting the right to disconnect is essential, it’s equally important to maintain business continuity. Clear, proactive communication and setting realistic expectations are key to navigating this transition. However, implementing this policy isn’t without challenges. Defining what constitutes “reasonable” contact outside of hours could lead to disputes and requires careful handling. Ultimately, these changes present an opportunity to foster a healthier, more sustainable work culture, but their success will hinge on effectively managing these challenges. Only time will tell. https://lnkd.in/gT-UV4-T #RightToDisconnect #WorkLifeBalance #FutureOfWork

You have the right to disconnect from work after hours from today. But what does that mean in practice?

Helping a Candidate Make the Right Career Move: Juggling Two Job Offers I recently worked with a candidate navigating the tricky decision of choosing between two attractive job offers. With just a few years of experience, they were excited but also a bit unsure about which direction to take. So, we sat down together to figure it out. The Situation Here’s what they were looking at: Job Offer One: • Higher Base Salary: A nice bump from their current pay. • Comprehensive Benefits: Solid package. • Attractive Commission Scheme: Potential to earn more in the short term. Job Offer Two: • Competitive but Lower Salary: A bit less than Job One. • Moderate Benefits: Not as flashy. • Less Attractive Commission: Lower earnings potential upfront. • Mentorship: The chance to work closely with a seasoned pro. • Career Growth: Some really promising long-term opportunities. • Professional Development: Training, both on the job and externally. How We Tackled It The candidate was torn - do they go for the immediate cash or the long-term potential? We started by chatting about what really matters to them right now and where they want to be in the future. Here’s What We Talked About: • Priorities: What’s more important now - more money or bigger opportunities later? • Long - Term Vision: Where do they see themselves in 5 - 10 years? • Mentor Advice: We got some input from mentors and industry folks. • Financial Reality: Making sure they’re financially covered no matter what. The Outcome After thinking it through, they decided to go with the job that offered more long-term growth, even if the initial pay was a bit lower. It was the right call for their career path, and it should set them up for bigger things down the line. If you’re stuck between two offers and not sure which to take, send me a message. I’m here to help you decide which move is best for your career. #CareerAdvice #ProfessionalDevelopment #CoachRecruitment

“74% 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗼𝘆𝗲𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝗮𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝗯𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝘀.” Yesterday, one of news.com.au's top stories focused on the results of a survey asking employees about their satisfaction in the workplace. Why did so many readers click on this article? Let's unpack what the survey discovered: A survey of 2,300 Australian employees and HR leaders highlights a worrying trend: while employee retention rates are high, engagement and happiness are at a low. Economic uncertainty has kept many employees in their roles out of caution, not satisfaction, with nearly three-quarters planning to leave when the job market improves. This artificially high retention, driven more by fear than by fulfilment, is a ticking time bomb for businesses. This situation presents both a challenge and an opportunity. Disengaged employees can seriously hurt productivity and morale, with some businesses already seeing losses of up to $100,000 a month due to low engagement. I think the key is to act now. Here’s what businesses can do: 1. Boost Recognition: Regular, meaningful recognition keeps employees engaged. 2. Support Work-Life Balance: Flexibility leads to happier, more productive employees. 3. Invest in Managers: Give them the tools they need to lead effectively. Need help with retention and engagement? Major Overhaul of Australia’s 482 Visa: Simplified Pathways and Enhanced Opportunities for Skilled Workers The Australian government has recently reshaped its Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) 482 visa with several key updates, as unveiled in May 2024’s Federal Budget: 1. Work Experience Requirement: The TSS 482 visa now only requires one year of work experience, down from two years, effective from November 23, 2024. This change simplifies the process for skilled workers seeking this visa. 2. ‘Skills in Demand’ Visa: The TSS 482 visa will transition to a new ‘Skills in Demand’ visa program, offering three tailored pathways for different skilled workers: the Specialist Skills, Core Skills, and Essential Skills Pathways. This restructuring aims to enhance job security and mobility for visa holders. 3. Labour Market Testing (LMT): The LMT criteria for the 482 visa have been streamlined, with employers now only needing to post two job ads. This update aims to reduce the administrative load and costs tied to hiring international talent. 4. Permanent Residency: All pathways under the new ‘Skills in Demand’ visa provide clear routes to permanent residency, offering greater long-term stability for skilled workers and their families. These updates underscore the government’s commitment to attract and retain international talent by simplifying immigration. If you’re looking to navigate these changes, either as a candidate or a business, contact Coach Recruitment. We specialise in recruiting creative, digital and marketing professionals to help businesses thrive. #AustralianVisa #SkilledWorkers #PermanentResidency #Recruitment #TSS482Visa #InternationalTalent #CoachRecruitment

Ready for a sea change? We are lucky to call Pottsville the home of Coach Recruitment. It’s a tiny town halfway between the #GoldCoast and #ByronBay with a population of about 8,000 people. We made the move from Sydney a few years back and love life in the regions. My wife and I have a work/life balance now that wouldn't have been achievable in Sydney. While things have certainly calmed down since the great regional migration that took place during Covid, Aussies choosing to move to the regions still made up 11.3% of all household moves in 2023. According to the Regional Australia Institute, these are the most popular destinations for Seachangers and Treechangers: 1. Sunshine Coast, Queensland (13.4 per cent share of net capital city to regional migration) 2. Gold Coast, Queensland (9.5 per cent share) 3. Moorabool, Victoria (6.1 per cent share) 4. Lake Macquarie, NSW (5.2 per cent share) 5. Greater Geelong, Victoria (4.9 per cent share) Each Friday, we’ll be taking a look at the realities of a seachange/treechange, with the aim of helping those who are thinking of making the move, make up their minds. We also want to promote great regional businesses that are looking for quality talent. So, if you’re someone who’s made the move, thinking about taking the leap, or a business in search for someone great, please get in touch. DM me here or call 0457 448 182. #regionaljobs #seachange #treechange #digitalrecruitment #goldcoastjobs #byronjobs #newcastlejobs #geelongjobs
