Part 2 of the DRC’s plan to align cobalt supply with world demand is beginning to emerge – the next step following the export ban appears to be export quotas and plans to include “obtaining Indonesia’s collaboration” to “better control” cobalt supply and prices on the global market. https://lnkd.in/gyxXEWf4 https://lnkd.in/grvve7CA. A cobalt physical holding entity could significantly impact the cobalt market balance and price, as the company could quickly absorb highly sought-after inventory. https://lnkd.in/gr76kiYY #cobalt #batterymetals #criticalminerals #MineralSupplyChain #commodities

The DRC cobalt export ban has introduced a significant layer of uncertainty and tension in the market, sending prices on an explosive journey. A short-lived ban could mean a quick return to oversupply, while tighter long-term controls could reshape the global cobalt market and force a pricing reset. We take the opportunity to examine the government’s objectives, market impacts and potential next developments. https://lnkd.in/g3Mpa5n4 Thanks to Benchmark Mineral Intelligence for the excellent data on historical DRC exports, which helps demonstrate that a "surge" of exports is unlikely once the ban is removed. #cobalt #batterymetals #criticalminerals #MineralSupplyChain #esginvesting #asx #nometalsnotransition #greenpremium #FutureMadeinAustralia #KwinanaIndustrialArea

📈 Cobalt sulphate (EXW China) prices rally 27% week-on-week 🔎 The sharp price incline comes as impacts of the DRC's temporary cobalt export ban begin to permeate across the market. On March 5 2025, Benchmark assessed EXW China cobalt sulphate prices at an average of $4,554/tonne - a level that hasn't been reached since March of last year. Due to relatively lower inventory stocks, and a more frequent need to purchase material from the spot market, cobalt sulphate prices were quick to react to the export ban. Further price increases are expected for #cobaltsulphate due to bullish market sentiment, though the rate of increase is likely to soften. So far, the cobalt hydroxide and oxide markets have remained static as liquidity has dried up whilst players wait to ascertain an appropriate price level, but an increase is anticipated in the coming weeks. As fundamental oversupply persists, some market participants note that this price rally may be short lived once the market readjusts to the new supply landscape. Benchmark's Cobalt Price Assessment publishes IOSCO-assured cobalt prices to a proprietary, mineral-specific methodology with rolling market commentary. ⬇️ Get in touch via the link in the comments section.

Temporary DRC Cobalt Export Ban ⛏️ Exports of cobalt from the DRC are to be halted for four months in a bid to counter persistent market oversupply.
