We’re still buzzing from that Good Design Awards ceremony - so here’s a glimpse into what was presented that night… Good Design Team of the Year. For a design consultancy, this prize is our ultimate. From our start, Cobalt’s focus is on creating a culture and team approach that puts the user, client and project front and centre. Which is why this award is so special to us. We strive to create an environment where designers and engineers have the space to be their best and work their magic as a collaborative team. Doing this while running a business in 2024 is no easy task, making this accolade all the sweeter. Thank you Good Design Australia, their jurors, and our talented team. We also acknowledge our past staff who helped shape Cobalt over the years. INFIX Creative Studio sat down with Steve Martinuzzo and Jack Magree, to share some insight behind-the-scenes. Cobalt Design is a creative design and engineering group based in inner Melbourne. Their team is led by Founders Jack Magree, Steve Martinuzzo and later joined by Warwick Brown. From graduate designers to executives, Cobalt’s design culture ensures respect at every level. As the 2024 Good Design Team of the Year Winner, they’ve designed an environment where creativity, motivation and inspiration thrive. This has a ripple effect onto their designers and clients, unlocking the full potential of their product development projects. Flexible. Compact. Highly accurate. Designed for the user, and their lab workflow. In addition to our Good Design Team of the Year Award, we also won a Good Design Award for the Bio-Rad PTC Tempo! This molecular biology instrument sets a new standard for flexibility, user-centred design, and integration into the laboratory space. A primary goal for the device design was to cater for a diverse range of applications, individuals, and broader lab spaces. This required a deep understanding of lab environments and workflow needs, translating into a highly adaptive product offering that maintains high performance and increased efficiency. We are proud to have worked closely with Bio-Rad Laboratories on this exciting project, guiding the design and exterior engineering of the device as a collaborative development team. Good Design Team of the Year. 🥇 Good Design Award – Product Design. 🏆 Was that a dream? 🎆 During last night's Good Design Australia ceremony, Cobalt was crowned Good Design Team of the Year! And if that wasn’t enough to make the night… the Bio-Rad Laboratories PTC Tempo also won a Good Design Award. Steve Martinuzzo and Kynan Taylor accepted this honour on behalf of the team, while the rest of us celebrated back home. We’re on the lookout for an experienced design or engineering professional to join our team. This role demands a proactive and hands-on approach, blending technical expertise with design sensibility to drive projects from concept through to realisation. Working on a range of diverse projects, within a dynamic, collaborative environment, you will work in a hands-on capacity, getting involved in detail development and CAD execution on a range of projects. You will need at least 2 years of product development experience, either in consulting or an in-house role, and a passion to work within a team to produce truly world-class product designs. Strong DFM, Solidworks and prototyping skills are critical.
