We know that dealing with damage can be stressful, but taking the right steps can make all the difference. The Home and Contents insurance experts have shared some possible steps to follow. Tip 1: Take photos before removing any water-damaged or soaked items. Using a modern mobile phone or digital camera often makes it easier to catalogue or timestamp images. Tip 2: Create a list of damaged items, including brand, model, and serial number if possible. If you have receipts, catalogue these with the images you've taken. Tip 3: Don’t throw away items that could be repaired—unless they pose a health risk. Tip 4: Speak to your insurer before authorising any repair or building work. You may be able to hire your own trades and have your insurer refund the costs, however, this depends on the insurer itself and you must check your PDS beforehand. Tip 5: Contact your insurer as soon as possible to start the claim process. Insurers offer a variety of ways to lodge a claim. Some are online, over the phone or via an App. If you are unsure on how to lodge a claim or require immediate support, whether for vulnerability or financial hardship, your insurer will be able to assist you and recommend resources.

A big thank you to Rachel David, CEO of Private Healthcare Australia, who joined David Koch AM for a very interesting - and very important discussion - about issues that affect millions of Australians.
CEO of Private Healthcare Australia | Accomplished Business and Political Strategist | Business Leader | Expert in Federal Government Regulation | Health Policy Advocate | Corporate Affairs Specialist | Board Director
The Australian Government has flagged its intention to announce the annual increase to health insurance premiums for 15 million people in the near future. For months now, health funds have been working through a highly regulated process, determined by Australian Prudential Regulation Authority and the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care to negotiate the price of their insurance policies for the year ahead. Every year, health funds provide submissions to APRA and the Government, who alongside the Minister for Health, set the price. During this difficult economic period, many factors are affecting this year’s pricing, including the growing rate of health inflation, increasing funding for private hospitals, and rising costs for technology and cybersecurity. Health funds are also being hit with revenue raising by the NSW Government which is likely to drive premiums up by around 1% across the country. Despite all of this, health funds are constantly providing value in new ways to their members, whether that be through ‘no gap fee’ surgery programs, home-based rehabilitation and mental health care, free GP telehealth appointments and heart health checks. We’re seeing more innovation to respond to members’ needs every day. I spoke with David Koch AM at Compare the Market Australia to explain more about the process ahead of the premium round announcement, and how health funds are working hard with the government to maximise affordability for Australians. Thanks for having me on! Listen below.
