  • Australians will face a chain reaction of financial uncertainty over generations if proposed advice reforms aren’t legislated before the next federal election. CALI CEO Christine Cupitt told The Australian, it’s time for the Federal Government to just get on with it.    “Without these reforms, millions of Australians and their families will be left behind in financial limbo.     Doing nothing won't just hurt today. It will set in motion a chain reaction over the next 10, 20 and even 30 years as many Australians remain priced-out of getting the right advice to secure their financial future and look after their loved ones.” More than 40% of Australians want more personalised financial advice that helps them make a decision about how much cover they need and the products that are best suited to them.     Under proposed reforms, this is the kind of advice life insurers would be able to give their customers about their own products when they ask for it, and at no extra cost to the customer. • The financial advice needs of Australians are not currently being met, particularly for women and young people. Allowing life insurers to provide simple advice on their own products, when customers ask them to, is now more critical than ever as Australians face sustained cost of living pressures. Prominent social researcher Dr Rebecca Huntley dives deeper into the research behind CALI's State of Australia's Safety Net report, which looked into the lives of more than 5000 workers and the safety nets they rely on every day. 👉 Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/gRaYYQzu 👉 Access the full report: https://lnkd.in/gQmugR_w

  • Financial products and services present a unique risk for financial abuse and family and domestic violence.   CALI CEO, Christine Cupitt took part in a panel discussion on the complex nature of family violence and its links to economic security at the 2024 Women in Super Conference last week. Christine spoke about the work Australia’s life insurers have done and continue to do with experts, advocates and lived experience research to better protect victim-survivors.   👉 Read more: https://lnkd.in/gpCtM8Qc

  • Australians need better access to affordable advice, especially if they can’t afford to pay for a financial adviser in a cost-of-living crisis. “We have an advice accessibility crisis in Australia,” CALI CEO Christine Cupitt told SBS News recently. Financial advice reform is critical to empowering people to make informed decisions so they can live in a healthy, confident and secure way over their lifetime. For Catherine Ashton, the financial advice she received after a life changing car crash that left her unable to work was invaluable. But she says getting it came at a cost - around $5,000. • On World Mental Health day, we’re joining the global community in raising awareness about mental health, and how important it is to have meaningful connections to support and services, including your life insurer. Australia’s life insurers recognise that mental health is not just a personal challenge. It impacts families, communities and workplaces. CALI CEO Christine Cupitt joined key industry thought leaders at the ALUCA - Australasian Life Underwriting and Claims Association MiniLUCA Melbourne mental health panel today and spoke about the critical roles society, government and industry play to support people through life’s biggest challenges. “Life insurance is about more than financial protection. It’s about giving millions of people peace of mind on their best and worst days. Life insurers are one of the largest providers of financial support for people experiencing mental health challenges, second only to the Federal Government. Despite this, our research shows that only a third of Australians would turn to their life insurer for help if they couldn’t work due to a mental health challenge. There’s more work to do and life insurers stand ready to help,” she said.
