This week, more than 50 women who are considering a career change to construction visited Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) to walk on the new 3.7km runway, meet with construction workers and get a first-hand look at construction works taking place at the WSI’s integrated 24-hour Cargo Precinct. Hosted by WSI and CPB Contractors, and joined by representatives from Australian Constructors Association (ACA) the event kicked off ACA’s “It’s Possible” campaign, designed to encourage women – especially those in mid-career – to consider switching to construction. CPB Contractors launched Australia’s first paid Women in Construction program in NSW in 2022, going on to expand the program to Victoria the following year. CPB Contractors’ Emily Wood, who graduated from the program in 2022 and now works on the M12 project, joined the 50 women sharing how much she loves her job, “I’ve been working as a labourer for three years and I love my job. Every day is different and I’m always learning something new – from changing a tyre to building a major road, I’m constantly gaining new skills and experience.” Read more here: https://lnkd.in/gpQrKas4 Want to hear more about what's happening across CPB Contractors? 👷♀️Design Engineer Laura Onate is part of the CPB Contractors team bringing Melbourne’s West Gate Tunnel project to life.👷♀️ Her work here is instrumental and includes optimising designs, evaluating changes and identifying opportunities to increase sustainability and reduce costs. Supporting changes during the construction phase requires a great deal of creativity and innovation, especially when flexibility is limited. With a strong focus on sustainability and cost efficiencies, Laura has been instrumental in avoiding unnecessary design changes and identifying opportunities to reuse materials for each proposed change. “Don’t be afraid of the things that you don’t know, you can use them as an opportunity to come up with new innovative and creative solutions”, says Laura. 🟣Women are tipping the gender balance and entering the construction industry in greater numbers than ever before, and this year, CPB Contractors is marking #InternationalWomensDay by sharing stories of how female team members across our projects, offices and plant yards are making their mark. #AccelerateAction🟣 Want to hear more about what's happening across CPB Contractors? 🛣Spearheading the application of an innovative road drain solution is an impressive achievement, and today, we’re shining a spotlight on CPB Contractors Design Engineer Afrida Salma, who did just that as part of her role on Transport for NSW’s Warringah Freeway Upgrade (WFU) project.🤩 Through sound engineering principles, Afrida has helped significantly improve project outcomes by designing and implementing a slotted drain system along the 4km alignment. This more effective drainage option not only streamlines the construction process but also captures water runoff more effectively. 🔦#Testing and #Assessment: Afrida and the WFU team worked closely with TfNSW from the outset to ensure the effectiveness of the innovative solution. Together, our teams completed a comprehensive whole-of-life cost assessment, which guided the strategic placement of each slotted drain and conducted extensive testing and design modifications, taking the product from precast components to in-situ concrete to ensure optimal performance. Lauren Fraser, CPB Contractors Site Engineer, has a lived understanding of how pairing the right technology with expertise significantly improves quality, safety, cost and program delivery outcomes.↗️↗️ Starting her career with CPB Contractors as a graduate on two high-profile rail projects in Australia and now part of Brisbane’s Cross River Rail team, Lauren embraces digital engineering tools to optimise outcomes on site each day. She also helps build the capabilities of her team mates by championing their uptake of tech and supporting them with training and mentoring as needed. “Transitioning from graduate engineer to site engineer has had its own challenges. I relocated to a new state and took on critical project tasks that required me to adapt quickly. Drawing on my engineering knowledge and pairing it with the right software here enabled me to embrace my new responsibilities with calm enthusiasm. I’m committed to supporting the next generation of construction professionals, especially women in construction, just as my peers have done for me.” 🟣Women are tipping the gender balance and entering the construction industry in greater numbers than ever before, and this year, CPB Contractors is marking #InternationalWomensDay by sharing stories of how female team members across our projects, offices and plant yards are making their mark. #AccelerateAction🟣 Want to hear more about what's happening across CPB Contractors?
