Q. What do you get when you dig out 9.8 kilometres of twin tunnels, 4x stub tunnels, 39 cross passages, 5x station boxes, 2x services facility shafts and 1x temporary tunnelling support shaft?🤔 A. Why, you get the completion of all excavation works on the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport, Station Boxes and Tunnelling project, of course!💡 It was a real team effort for the CPB Contractors team, who worked with our delivery partners to deliver a truly monumental amount of tunnelling with the help of four tunnel boring machines – Eileen, Marlene, Catherine and Peggy – as well as roadheaders and remote-control excavators. Well done to the team on this massive achievement! 🎆🎡Roll up, roll up… there’s plenty to see and plenty of #STEMCareerPaths to consider! Our CPB Contractors team was #thrilled to put STEM careers on show to more than 100 secondary and primary students at a recent careers night at Glenmore Park High School. Currently delivering the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport, Station Boxes and Tunnelling project, our team brought along surveying, safety and environment monitoring equipment to share some of what they do each day. Dressing up in PPE was a highlight for the budding STEM students, as was the opportunity to ask our project engineers an array of questions. 🏗 1️⃣Depressurise… 2️⃣Deactivate… 3️⃣Install… 4️⃣and repeat! That pretty much sums up how our CPB Contractors and United Infrastructure teams efficiently and safely installed 26 precast segments, taking the Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport Surface, Civil and Alignment Works (SCAW) project 15.3 meters above Warragamba Dam pipelines. Preparing for the installation involved strengthening the ground around the pipelines and conducting thorough vibration and settlement monitoring during construction. The project delivery teams’ innovative use of purpose-built Underslung Temporary Beams also protected the integrity of the pipelines and supported the segments while crews lifted and positioned the precast segments.
