Curtin Tax Clinic team have just returned from a week up at Fitzroy Crossing helping local workers and community members complete their tax returns. We have assisted 44 clients and completed 64 tax returns, securing over $70k in estimated refunds. Thank you the Fitzroy Bridge Alliance for supporting and funding this trip. Last night the Curtin Tax Clinic were awarded the Attorney General's Community Service Law Award for outstanding service to the Western Australian Community at The Law Society of Western Australia Annual Gala Dinner held at Crown Towers which in itself was an amazing evening. We were very honored and humbled to have received this award from The Hon John Quigley MLA. The Curtin Tax Clinic is made up of amazing and talented people and does equally amazing work for the community of Western Australia and this award recognised in particular the work undertaken for those who are incarcerated within WA prisons and the work with indigenous community across the WA outback. The backbone of the Curtin Tax Clinic are the amazing #Violet Lim #Ning Lee and #Lora Whittington and all the students who give their time each week to assist those in need. But none of this would be possibly without the support of #Curtin University and in particular the #Curtin Law School who provide us with both the resources and encouragement to do what we do best. As part of the #National Tax Clinic Program we would also like to thank the Federal Government for funding the program and also to the #ATO Australian Taxation Office for their ongoing support.

Several members of the Curtin Tax Clinic have been traveling for nearly 2 weeks in the NG lands, assisting the communities of Warbuton, Blackstone, Jameson, Wingellina, Wanarn, and Warrakurna with their taxation and superannuation affairs. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the #Ngaanyatjarra Council for supporting and funding this trip. Special appreciation to #Karen Riedy for organizing all the logistics and to the wonderful #Jen Moerua for accompanying us and showcasing the amazing sites in the NG lands. On Friday, the Curtin Tax Clinic conducted its 2nd half of the year induction for new members - students, interns, and volunteers. The participants engaged in a day of immersive learning, preparing them for the diverse range of activities within the tax clinic. #TaxClinic #CurtinUniversity

Many students at the Curtin Tax Clinic are directly involved in cases with court proceedings where clients are represented by our pro-bono legal firm #Jackson McDonald. It was rewarding to visit the Central Law Courts recently and witness firsthand the positive outcomes of our work. Seeing clients with all tax lodgements up to date (sometimes spanning 20 years of tax returns and BAS Statements) complying with the court's orders truly emphasizes the impact of our efforts. Additionally, Annette's Tax Administration lectures truly come to life when we observe the legal teams dissecting the Tax Administration Act 1953! 😂

What a way to celebrate the first half of the year in the Curtin Tax Clinic with a Christmas in July function for all the students and staff! Santa Clause Henry also popped in with some pressies for all those who had been good during their time in the clinic.
