October 10 is World Mental Health Day, and today, I’m going to share something very personal. Over the last four years since starting our business, I’ve worked so hard to create a community where people can show up exactly as they are—no judgment, just support to help you live your best life. The truth is, I did this because my husband and I knew what it felt like to have no one. I never wanted anyone to feel like they didn’t have someone in their corner. But, in building this, I’ve had to face my own struggles with mental health. I’ve spent the last four years holding onto so many traumatic stories, advocating for people who, at times, took more than they gave. It drained me of the energy I should’ve saved for my own family. And now, I’m empty—nothing left in the tank. From all of this, I’ve developed vicarious trauma, and it’s something I’m working through now, with the love and support of my husband and girls. I want to bring awareness to mental health, because it’s so important to know—it’s okay to admit that you’re not okay. On the very first day of my healing journey, I was in Ballina. I spent five minutes dancing in the sand, with my girls laughing in the background. You can’t hear it in the video, but I hope you all can find moments of joy in whatever you’re doing, too. What I’m most proud of is that I’ve built a place where I can show up as my true self, and still be shown love and support when I’m struggling. I hope you all know, this place was built for you, too—by someone who understands what it feels like to be without it. https://lnkd.in/gGs--TpA

This will impact every single client of ours!!
Imagine the majority of your clients come from low socio-economic backgrounds. They struggle to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table for their children, yet they’re now required to pay for a test just to access the disability support they desperately need. We spent $3,000 out of our own pocket to get Rohan onto the NDIS because two attempts with evidence of his vision loss weren’t enough. This system is failing the very people who need it most. This will profoundly impact every single client we support, given the area we live in and the demographic we serve. This is simply not okay!! https://lnkd.in/g8ZKtcK2

Oh my, do I have ALOT to say about this! No one can gain NDIS with a medical condition, you wouldn’t gain access with a medical condition unless you had a FCA done, the people/person who wrote this report is absolutely not living with disability everyday! We have over 85 clients whose lives are impacted by a medical, psychosocial, physical or even terminal disability! You can’t base access on support needs, these people have in most cases NEVER been properly supported so they become independent but most have no hygiene skills, limited everyday living skills, budgeting skills and social skills, these people only have the functional capacity they have because they’ve been forced to live WITHOUT support and that’s why this will continue to be a system! We can’t keep pretending that people don’t need to be supported more? Why does it take a blind person 3 tries to gain access? Why did we have to pay $$$$ out of our own pocket for Rohan to get the support he needed and that we have paid out of our own pocket for 2 years (trying to gain access) so that I could earn an income for us to survive not only the financial strain this put us under but also the strain of being with a person who’s whole life had been impacted! I’ve never been supported! I’ve never been granted a minute of counselling to even come to terms with our new life (nor have my children) but neither did my husband until we paid for an FCA! The demographic of people we are supporting (for free) can’t afford a $$$$ report to give them access! Another reason why we need a provider to help us help people gain access! The better you are the more likely they are to use your services! If I as a small organisation can

📢 Calling all Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, Physios, and Allied Health Professionals! We are on a mission to help individuals navigate their journey to gaining NDIS access. We understand the pivotal role that Functional Capacity Assessments and other reports play in this process. However, many are facing hurdles due to the lack of affordability, accessible and timely assessments. Currently, we are assisting 85 clients (growing daily)in their journey to obtain NDIS Access. These are individuals who, due to their disabilities, find daily life challenging, and the daunting task of navigating the NDIS application process adds to their burden. Many are on Disability Support Pension or profoundly affected by their disabilities. Our mission is driven by a fierce commitment to support these individuals; we recognise the urgent need for our services! We’re reaching out to compassionate organisations or individuals willing to partner with us by providing these crucial services. Your expertise could dramatically change lives by aiding those struggling to gain NDIS access. By collaborating, you’ll not only help in our mission but also establish a lasting relationship with clients, offering your ongoing services to those in need. Our commitment to this cause was born from our own experiences, understanding the profound impact of these services. We offer part of our service for free, as it took multiple attempts for Rohan, to gain access due to his blindness. We believe in supporting others to avoid these challenges and are dedicated to continuing this vital service. If you’re interested in making a real difference and are able to offer some pro bono services to help kickstart someone’s journey, please email us. Together, we can make the path to NDIS access smoother and more accessible for everyone. Let’s join forces to support our community! 🤝 Email: envision@delegatess.com.au Phone: (07) 3050 4431
