  • Last week, the STEM Aboriginal Learner Congress, Australia’s biggest STEM event for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, took place on Kaurna land. 🔬🧬 The Congress is all about building connections—between students, industry professionals, and peers from diverse communities. It’s an exciting space for students to dive into science, technology, engineering and maths, build cultural bonds, and celebrate the theme ‘Cultural Innovators.’ Honouring Aboriginal STEM wisdom, this event empowers the next generation to lead with creativity and strength. It’s about a future fuelled by culture and innovation.🖤💛❤️

  • Congratulations to the South Australian winners of the 2024 Commonwealth Bank Teaching Awards! Everyday educators in our public education system help South Australia’s children and young people learn and thrive so it’s fantastic to see recognition on the national stage. ⭐ Principal Ian Kent from Eastern Fleurieu R-12 School was recognised for his exceptional leadership and initiating game-changing programs to assist his students like New Pedagogies for Deep Learning and the Berry Street Education Model. ⭐ Early Career Teacher Loren Wareing from Indulkana Aṉangu School was acknowledged for her focus on literacy. She organised students, teachers, Aṉangu educators and leaders into small learning literacy groups to make learning more accessible. • 🎉 It’s National Science Week! This year’s theme is Species Survival, emphasising the vital role of science and innovation in helping species thrive in our ever-changing world. Year 5 and 6 students from Hahndorf Primary School and Preschool have been amazing citizen scientists, analysing 21,100 photos of the Great Barrier Reef for this year’s Great Reef Census! In its fourth year, the census aims to process and examine 150,000 images to help save the reef. Kudos to student Harper, who analysed 2,100 photos alone and won a trip to the Great Barrier Reef! Just like Marlin and Dory in Finding Nemo, lets keep swimming to support and celebrate the incredible efforts to protect our planet’s precious species! 🌍💚🐠🐙
