On Harmony Day today and every other day, we celebrate our people and the cultural diversity in our organisation. 🧡 The extent of our cultural diversity and capability was reflected in the WA Public Sector Commission 2023 Census, with more than 50% of respondents identifying as culturally and linguistically diverse, fluent in a language other than English, or born outside of Australia! 🌏 This is well above the sector wide average of 39%. #ThisIsDoT We strive to create a sense of belonging in the workforce and we're not done yet! Ahoy there! Since finding a large anchor from the seabed at Casuarina Boat Harbour during the construction of the new northern breakwater, we've been working with Western Australian Museum to determine its origins and what comes next! ⚓ It's intended the anchor will be preserved and displayed as part of the completed breakwater project.
The WA Museum and the Department of Transport, Western Australia have teamed up to document an anchor recently raised from the depths off Bunbury's coast. The find was identified by our Maritime Heritage Department as an admiralty-style mooring anchor, commonly used between the late 19th and mid-20th centuries to safely moor ships in shallow waters. Our Materials Conservation Department is now working with the Department of Transport to stabilise the anchor, providing specialised conservation advice.
