  • “You do feel proud when you look at these projects after they’re done, we all have a sense of ownership after the work we did on them.” This week marks 25 years since of the opening of the Heysen Tunnels. As part of the largest road project ever undertaken in South Australia at the time, the tunnels significantly improved safety and efficiency for motorists travelling between Adelaide and the hills. The tunnels recently underwent a major upgrade, adding more than 1,000 LED lights, 6 overhead gantries, 140 CCTV and incident detection cameras, 60km of cabling and a new automated fire suppression system. #construction #engineering #tunnels #transport #infrastructure #safety #history #southaustralia #adelaidehills

  • This International Women’s Day, we celebrate the partnerships that empower women to lead in our organisation. For women like Whitney Lewis, meeting her mentor, Olivia Hubbard, has reframed what leadership can be and given her the confidence to recognise there is more than one path to get there. “I’ve often thought that I’m not leadership material but seeing Olivia being a kind leader with empathy and understanding has made me realise I could be a leader if I wanted to be.” Their partnership underlines the power of mentorship, not just for building confidence but in creating a ripple effect of inspiration and connection. Being paired with Whitney has also given Olivia a fresh perspective - a reminder of the challenges that can come early in a career journey. “I've been really lucky to have some pretty amazing mentors myself, so I wanted to help someone have a similar experience because you can't be what you can't see. It’s helped me in recalling what it was like to be in Whitney’s shoes, and I've been able to bring that front of mind in my own leadership.” We are proud to have mentorships like Olivia and Whitney's across our Department as we continue to support women in their #MarchForward as our next wave of leaders. #IWD2025 #MarchForward #InternationalWomensDay

  • The bridge at the new Aldinga interchange is now open to traffic as work continues on the underpass that will help to ease congestion and improve traffic flow. Part of our Fleurieu Connections Project, the interchange is realigning the junctions of Aldinga Beach Road and Aldinga Road to create safer and more efficient access to and from Main South Road. An ongoing priority for the project has been to support local businesses during construction. This includes 97% of the work being undertaken by South Australian businesses - 95 businesses, including a number of Indigenous-owned enterprises, have been awarded contracts to provide materials and services for stage two of the duplication. Thank you to our Alliance partners CPB Contractors, GHD and Aurecon for their work on the Fleurieu Connections Project. Once complete in early 2026, it will reduce congestion, improve travel time and increase freight efficiency, ensuring long-term benefits for one of South Australia’s fastest-growing regions. As well as the key benefits to road users and the region, the project is supporting 405 full-time jobs during construction. • The new Adelaide Aquatic Centre is taking shape, thanks to some of the biggest timber beams South Australia has ever seen. Transported from Austria to Adelaide, via Belgium and Melbourne, 52 massive beams and columns have travelled across the seas to form the framework of the new centre. The beams are so large they had to be specially milled in Austria. The largest is 37 metres long, weighs a hefty 10,282kg and will be installed this week. The new centre will feature extensive indoor and outdoor pool areas, water slides, splash zones and lawned recreation facilities. More than 1500 jobs are being supported during its construction, with the new centre to open to the public in the summer of 2025-26. Find out more here 👉http://spr.ly/6049LpozB

  • South Australian company SGP Civil is one of the local contractors playing an important role helping to deliver the duplication of Main South Road as part of our Fleurieu Connections project.🏗️👷♂️ The Somerton Park business is bringing its expertise in complex civil earthworks and structural concrete projects to help complete the new interchange at Aldinga Road and Aldinga Beach Road. So far this has included: - Pouring more than 230 cubic metres of concrete for the 27-metre-wide bridge deck - Installing concrete friction slabs to stabilise the underpass - Working with Fleurieu Cranes Pty Ltd to install 12 Super-T beams to support the new bridge. SGP Civil has operated since 2016 and employs more than 60 people. It has worked with us on several major projects during that time, including the Northern Connector bridges, Heysen Tunnel refit and Ovingham Railway Station.
