Any excuse to support local businesses! 🥐🍰🥧 The Fleurieu region is home to plenty of great bakeries and cafés, making it easy to celebrate World Croissant Day today (or Chocolate Cake Day earlier this week — or even Pie Day last week!). Our Fleurieu Connections Alliance team is committed to empowering local businesses — not just cafés and bakeries, but also construction firms, printers and catering services. The Fleurieu Connections project has set a goal of achieving a 97% local workforce on the second stage of the Main South Road upgrade between Aldinga and Sellicks Beach. More than 400 jobs are supported each year during construction, ensuring the project is not only transforming roads — it’s strengthening local industry and fostering long-term skills development as well as enhancing road safety, connectivity and tourism. So far, 65 businesses - many from the Fleurieu region - have been awarded tenders for services like earthworks, traffic control, road sweeping, environmental monitoring and drone surveying. The project is due for completion in 2026. To stay updated, visit 👉 www.fcalliance.com.au. #local #project #roads #contractor #fleurieu #southaustralia #construction #infrastructure

A new approach to improving motorist and pedestrian safety is being trialled in two busy pedestrian areas in metro Adelaide. The 3D 'dragon-teeth' markings are designed to grab motorists' attention and signal a transition to a low-speed zone (40 km/h). We've worked with the Centre for Automotive Safety Research (CASR) at the University of Adelaide to install the new markings at Magill Road, Magill, and Seaview Road, Henley Beach. Following the trial, researchers will evaluate how well the markings influence driver behaviour and improve road safety outcomes. #resarch #roadsafety #transport #roads

Students from Southern Vales Christian College recently had the opportunity to take their science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning out of the classroom and gain a unique insight into future career opportunities in South Australia's civil construction industry. The year 7, 8 and 9 students had the opportunity to visit the Stage 2 Main South Road duplication project site, a short walk from their Aldinga Beach campus. 💡 Under the guidance of experts from our Fleurieu Connections Alliance, the students undertook immersive learning activities including: 👉 a bridge building challenge, using materials such as pop sticks, straws and sticky tape 👉 a practical traffic management brainteaser, formulating detour routes and placing appropriate signage 👉 a guided bus tour of the live construction site to connect their learning to real-life projects. Hopefully the visit has inspired some future engineers! #education #construction #engineering #STEMlearning #community #projects #southaustralia

South Australia reached a major milestone in our journey towards a more sustainable public transport network as the 50th hybrid-diesel railcar entered service. ♻ The final rail car to be converted to hybrid technology has joined Adelaide Metro's fleet servicing the non-electrified Outer Harbor, Grange, Belair and Port Dock lines. 🔋🚊 Going green will save an estimated 2400 tonnes of CO₂ annually and reduce fuel consumption by between 700,000 and 1 million litres of diesel each year. This $11.4 million investment to create a cleaner, greener and more efficient public transport network is a critical step in achieving the State Government’s net-zero emissions target by 2050.

From behind a desk to behind the wheel, Claire’s story shows it’s never too late for a career change. 🚍 After 34 years working in Government, Claire decided it was time for a new chapter. She found her passion in public transport - an industry where, she says, every day is an opportunity to inspire, connect and make a difference. Claire underwent comprehensive training through our contractor Torrens Transit to equip her with the technical skills and knowledge to take the wheel and thrive. "I'd love to see more women take on this role. Driving a bus is empowering and the journey is worth it." Claire’s journey is a great example of how embracing change can lead to personal growth and help create a more inclusive and diverse future for public transport. #careerchange #busdriver #publictransport

👏 Thank you to the crews who worked recently to complete track maintenance, signalling works and the upgrade of the Tapleys Hill Road level crossing – benefitting rail passengers as well as motorists on Tapleys Hill Road and Trimmer Parade. Work at the level crossing included replacing old track with new rail, concrete sleepers and upgraded drainage systems. Road resurfacing, fresh line marking and pedestrian crossing upgrades such as widened footpaths and new fencing were also completed, making the area safer and more accessible for all. For this work to be undertaken safely, train services on the Outer Harbor, Port Dock and Grange lines were temporarily closed, with substitute bus services operating. Thank you to all of our customers for your patience while this important work was undertaken. Keolis Downer #rail #infrastructure #transport #civilconstruction #roads

🚲 The THINK! Road Safety BIG bike has gone from flat to fantastic in Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga! The annual installation of the 15 metre tall, 38 metre long road safety reminder signals that the start of the Santos Tour Down Under is just around the corner. As proud sponsors of this event, we’re excited to support a world-class cycling race while promoting ongoing road safety initiatives that encourage safe, shared use of South Australian roads. Through our THINK! Road Safety initiatives, we aim to create a safer environment on our roads for all users, including cyclists, drivers and pedestrians. #roadsafety #cycling #tourdownunder2025

Our Service SA staff have been working with the Hutt Street Centre to help vulnerable South Australians, including those experiencing homelessness, to rebuild their lives. Staff attend the Hutt St Centre fortnightly to assist people with essential life administration, offering a safe and accessible way to access identification documents. This initiative has already assisted 40 people with the paperwork and photos for proof of age cards, fine management, driver licence status checks and setting up mySAGOV accounts on personal devices. The welcoming environment at Hutt St Centre allows Service SA staff to work more effectively to understand and address the unique needs of each person, creating solutions that genuinely help people facing homelessness.
