Delighted to share the room with friends and colleagues and hear Hon. Lily D’Ambrosio (Minister for Energy and Resources) deliver thoughts and insights into Victoria’s growing renewable energy programs and projects at the recent Clean Energy Council gathering. Whilst there is plenty of work to be done, we appreciate the leadership Minister D'Ambrosio has shown to ensure Offshore Wind takes it's rightful place as a large scale, reliable source of renewable energy for Australia's future energy needs.

We’re delighted to be part of the Gippsland Skies Offshore Wind consortium that has been granted a feasibility licence for a fixed bottom 2.5 GW offshore wind project off the Gippsland region of Victoria. The first phase of the project is expected to be operational in 2032, contributing significantly to the Victorian Government’s offshore wind targets of at least 2 GW by 2032 and 4 GW by 2035. When fully operational, this project could power up to 1.4 million Victorian homes (equivalent to supplying approximately 17 percent of the State’s FY23 electricity demand). Great to take part in an important AOG Energy panel discussion about the part Offshore wind can play in WA’s renewable energy transition. Managing Director and Co-founder Jacob Jonker spoke about the possibility for Offshore wind to provide up to 20% of the new generation capacity required.

Consultation kicks off today on the proposed Bunbury offshore wind zone, 20km off the coast of Western Australia, potentially unlocking thousands of renewable energy jobs and cleaner, cheaper energy for the crticial minerals Western Australia produces. Offshore Wind in WA will be a valuable part of of the energy mix. As our Director - Ports and Supply Chain, Ashley McDonald outlined in his presentation at the recent Clean Energy Council WA Clean Energy Forum, WA has world class wind resource where it counts - close to demand, close to the grid, and in shallow water. WA has the skills and track record to deliver large marine infrastructure projects, and the capacity to expand existing ports. We encourage everyone to have their say on this consultation, which is open until the 3rd May 2024. Use this link to access the 'have your say'. https://lnkd.in/gQQFpu_D https://lnkd.in/gpz3u2ud

Our team were pleased to contribute to the first in-person meeting of the CEC's Offshore Wind taskforce last week. David Pratt from our Gippsland consortium partner Reventus Power flew in from London to give an excellent presentation on lessons learned from the UK's offshore wind sector. We're grateful to our Gippsland consortium partner AGL for hosting the event at their Melbourne Office. We're looking forward to partnering with industry and government to ensure the success of offshore wind in Australia. https://lnkd.in/gaQn5vEn

In today's Australian, our partner AGL Energy makes a compelling case for our Gippsland Offshore Wind project. Gippsland is simply the best location on Australia's East coast to produce affordable renewable energy at the scale required to replace coal generation by 2035.
