Another day, another event for Ed Abis … This week, Ed has travelled to London for Leaders in Sport Week, a jam-packed event full of insightful conversations with the leaders of the sports world, as well as some insightful talks. But Ed noticed something had changed this year, and people are finally catching on to what Dizplai has known for a while… You need to listen to your audience! 🔊 This was perfectly summarised in Gerard Piqué Bernabéu's panel, as they let fans control the events, from the creators they want to see play to things such as the colour of the pitch or where the next match will be, highlighting how fans are being placed at the heart of the Kings League production. Pique acknowledged the need for new formats, with new generations consuming content in a radically different way when discussing how his kids consume content, he said, “It’s true traditional sports, not just football, are too long for them (Children). It’s not that they don’t watch sports, but they aren’t watching a full 90 minutes or two and a half hours of tennis, they consume tablets at the same time and then disconnect and do other things, it’s their way of consuming.” With the Kings League Twitch channel now being the second most-watched Spanish language channel in the world. We’ve had a great few days at #SportsBizBarcelona, mixing it up with some titans of industry across the Southern European landscape. 🤝 Ed Abis and Ashley Holloway left the rain of Manchester and flew to sunny Catalonia, where they ran into fellow Comcast Tech Accelerator Alumni, Lucas Geisser, who is completing amazing work blurring the lines between physical and digital to drive engagement at ZATAP by collectID. It was also amazing for the team to catch up with Paul Bojarski, who is helping fans create meaningful and socially connected content experiences for Sceenic, as well as getting to spend some time with Epidemic Sound team Sean K., Declan Kelly, Kostas Papapanos and Ben Giles. Ash reflected on his time at Sports Biz and said, “I had the opportunity to discuss Dizplai's services and the significant impact they can have on brands. It was great to highlight how we not only provide graphic solutions but also help them drive commercial success and monetisation, which is crucial for their growth and engagement with their key audiences!” Overall, it was a fantastic few days discussing the current and future state of the sports industry, filled with thought-provoking and insightful conversations, discussing how we can provide better experiences for audiences transitioning them from passive viewers to active, engaged communities.
