Domestic and family violence support services provided by women, for women and children.
About us
DV West’s vision is for a society free of violence against women and children; a society where women and children are safe in their homes and in their communities and have the support and resources they need to live active and fulfilling lives. We provide supported crisis accommodation, transitional housing, an After Hours service and outreach support for women and children in the Nepean, Blue Mountains, Blacktown/Hills, and Hawkesbury districts. Our services are provided by women, for women and children. We operate within a feminist framework and acknowledge that domestic violence is predominately gender-based. Our practice is evidence based and informed by 40 years of working with women’s lived experiences. We are an inclusive organisation for all woman-identifying people. DV West is committed to empowering women and children by focusing on their strengths and exploring their hopes for the future. We prioritise the safety needs of women and children affected by domestic and family violence and we advocate for creating non-violent communities.

Hear what victim-survivors said they needed to get safe and recover from domestic violence. We launch this report to coincide with #HumanRightsDay this Sunday. The theme this year is “The Time for Human Rights is Now.” 𝗪𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐛𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐯𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐧𝐨𝐰. It is the first Australian study to adapt a multi-country outcomes methodology written by Dr Jane Bullen & Dr Lesley Laing. This study can support other services to build evidence base practice by improving data collection and evaluation processes that are based on women’s voices.
