Great work Mighty Cares. Thanks for the shout out Al Gibb.
The right time to publish your App is NOW or NEVER...... I've just spent 2 amazing days speaking at the Games in Education Symposium thanks to Creative Victoria and ACMI. A recurring question from attendees was 'when is the right time to publish my App?' I'll share a recent experience if it helps. We spent 10 months creating a beautiful play based workforce training App in response to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission's improved training compliance, the Strengthened Quality Standards. We were all set to launch on July 1, 2024... then the commission moved the goal posts extending their 'go live' date. We had amazing content for all 146 actions written by the best subject matter experts we could afford. We squished this content through our Mighty Cares AI washing machine to make it light and consumable then we sent it to the awesome team at Easy Read Australia to make it even more helpful for an ESL learner. Then it went to our partner, RMIT Online, who are using it for their first Micro-Cred in the Quality Standards. It was a mammoth effort. And now we have this time extension to put even more things in it. Woo Hoo 🥳 The reality was, it was already good enough. It's actually great enough. As creatives, I don't think we'll ever be truly happy. It's a curse most of us suffer through our projects. Your App will never be perfect. When it's great enough..feel the fear and publish it anyway. That's what we did with 1,100 users at CraigCare. No one bothered there are only 25 hair choices in the Avatar builder or the medals on the leaderboard aren't as bright as they could be or the sound effects are from a royalty free online library and not bespoke like I want them to be. 😭 The critical and constructive feedback for improvement we received from the staff dented my ego a wee bit. I was embarrassed that I didn't see any of it during months of design. Multiple 'doh.....OMG of course' eye-roll #shame moments. I owe Chamina, kitchen hand at Pascoe Vale a huge thanks for pointing out the bloody obvious. Chamina and others made the App better for all the future learners and more users will continue to make it better still. We would never know any of this if we were still tinkering with it today. I focused on what more we could do and forgot to celebrate what we had achieved. For goodness sake we're now 10 months ahead of ourselves with an App that covers all of the existing standards and the new ones coming in July 2025. It's a legit, low cost, set and forget for providers. I'm proud of us for achieving this. To all the folks at the conference (spoiler 🚨), your App is NEVER going to be everything you want it to be but it's probably great enough to publish NOW. Put your overly critical self-evaluations on mute, press go and strap in. Oh and the 5th App you make will be so much easier 😉 Thanks to my teachers Michaella Richards Lexon Li 🥑Ariel Magnes Matt Ditton Ben Britten and the decades of others. Every day is a school day for me....👨🏻🎓
