This is an example of a more sustainable approach to a waste problem. Martin Salter describes how the Spring Racing season in Sydney will be reducing their plastic waste. The team at the Australian Turf Club are working with their partners WOSUP® Australia Pty Ltd and Lion to change from plastic to aluminium cups. Aluminium is infinitely recyclable. It has great properties, like ductility and strength. Check out the post for more details. Contact Martin for more information. Are you a hands on person and like animals ? The equine sport community provide thousands of jobs across the country. Here is one example from Canberra. 📣📣📣 SIGNIFICANT ANNOUNCEMENT 📣📣📣 An independent report by IER has revealed that thoroughbred racing in the ACT was responsible for generating over $80m in direct expenditure to the ACT economy in 2022/2023 through its race days, industry activities and community events. Today suppliers, event partners, service providers, industry employees and other stakeholders joined us for a Morning Tea where we shared the wonderful news. The report also details that the Thoroughbred Racing industry is a strong driver of employment, with Canberra’s racing industry accounting for 500 full-time equivalent local jobs over the period. Canberra Racing Club Chief Executive Darren Pearce was buoyed but unsurprised by the strong data shared by the report. “The Canberra Racing Club is a shop front for a significant and hardworking industry which is bigger than some may realise.” Pearce said. “We love our horses, and their Trainers ensure they get great care from strappers to vets, farriers to equine dentists, equine nutritionists to chiropractors. There is a significant multiplier effect from every horse stabled here at Thoroughbred Park. The other big multiplier is our events and hospitality business which operates all year round.” “This month alone, Thoroughbred Park is hosting the Canberra Stamp Show, Wine Wise, Dulux Trade Show, ACT Emergency Services Agency Family Day, Cars and Coffee, German Auto Day plus three big race days, culminating in our Hops and Hooves Festival on AFL Grand Final Day.” “We are deeply connected to the Canberra community and contribute through employment, economic benefits, social and cultural fabric and proud to share some of this compelling data.” Read the full media release and report here: https://bit.ly/3zbmx7y

Are you seeking inspiration on how to deal with a multi dimensional work place ? Do you have multiple stakeholders ? With competing objectives ? The professional turf managers in our community have to deliver results in a complex work environment. In this example the team at Rockhampton Jockey Club have to provide high quality training and racing surfaces for approximately 300 equine athletes. The grounds team have to deal with weather, plant health, equine athletes, other facility users and the general. Their facilities can be open for activities from 3.00 am in the morning until late at night. The delivery of outcomes is also done in an environment of limited resources. This means that the teams have to be versatile and have to make decisions in real time. Here is a video of Trent Williams, the Racecourse manager leading from the front. He is removing the grass clippings from the track in order to suppress anaerobic soil conditions for the turf. Anaerobic conditions are undesirable was they impact the health of the grass plants in the turf surface. This delivers a high quality and safe racing track for the equine athletes, provides a consistent surface for the commercial stakeholders and creates a visually appealing facility for visitors. Looks simple on the surface, but there is a lot going on here. This is just one of the over 7,000 jobs in regional Queensland that rely on thoroughbred racing. Data from the August Race magazine published by Racing Queensland. Hope you found this helpful and interesting. #turf #turfmanagement #turfhealth #equine #uptothecup #regionaldevelopment #regionaljobs #rockhampton #queensland

Equine sport is an important cultural and economic activity in regional Australia. One example is thoroughbred horse racing. There are many venues that provide facilities for this sport. These are found in places like Rockhampton, Cairns and Canberra. In Queensland for example, there are over 7,000 full time jobs in supporting these equine athletes outside the Metro area of Brisbane. We are pleased to support with the naming rights to Race 5 and Race 7 this Friday in Canberra. FYI - there is an equine athlete called Plucky Ducky in race 5 that sounds like fun. #regionaldevelopment #sport #equinesport #physicaljobs #mentalhealth Rockhampton Jockey Club Cairns Jockey Club Racing Queensland

Are you interested in sustainability ? There is an iron ore mine located about 2,000 km from the North Pole. It is located near Inuit communities like Pond Inlet. The mine is looking at constructing a railway line in order to move ore to the port. The team at Baffinland are working closely with their Inuit neighbours to balance the protection of important cultural sites with the goals of the business. This is a great example of community engagement. Check out the post below for more information. #sustainability #mining #culture #culturalawareness #culturalcompetence

Baffinland recently completed the 2024 field season of our Archaeology Program along the planned route of the Steensby Railway. Through archaeological surveys, we identify culturally and historically significant sites and artifacts in planned development areas, which is a necessary step in ensuring their protection and preservation. Participants included Baffinland archaeologists, Inuit Monitors and field assistants from three Baffin Island communities, who completed aerial surveys by helicopter. All findings were documented on the land and by drone, while noting specific areas needing further investigation. Each new archaeology site will be registered with the Territory. It is important to note that during the survey phase of the Archaeology Program, no digging or retrieving of any artifacts took place. Baffinland has developed a detailed mitigation plan, prioritizing avoidance and protection. Before any excavation begins, archaeology permits will be reviewed and approved by the Territorial Archaeology Office, the communities, Inuit Heritage Trust, and Nunavut’s Minister of Culture and Heritage. Baffinland uses a balance of science and Inuit Knowledge to safeguard the environment in which we operate. We are committed to community consultation, Inuit representation, as well as respecting, protecting and preserving Nunavut’s unique culture and rich archaeological history. ᐹᕙᓐᓛᓐᑯᑦ ᐱᔭᕇᖅᓯᓵᖅᑐᑦ 2024-ᒥ ᓯᓚᒥ ᐱᓕᕆᓐᓇᐅᑎᓪᓗᒍ ᐃᑦᑕᕐᓂᓴᓕᕆᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᐱᓕᕆᐊᓂᒃ ᑕᐅᕘᓇ ᐸᕐᓇᒃᑕᐅᓯᒪᔪᑎᒍᑦ ᐊᖅᑯᑖᒍᑦ ᐃᒃᐱᑭᑦᑐᕐᔪᐊᓄᑦ ᓄᓇᓯᐅᑎᑯᑖᒃᓴᐅᑉ ᐊᖅᑯᑎᑯᑖᒃᓴᖓᓂ. ᐊᑐᖅᑕᐅᓪᓗᑎᒃ ᐃᑦᑕᕐᓂᓴᓂᒃ ᖃᐅᔨᓴᕐᓃᑦ, ᓇᓗᓇᐃᖅᓯᓯᒪᔪᒍᑦ ᐱᖅᑯᓯᒃᑯᑦ ᐃᒻᒪᕐᓂᓴᓪᓗ ᐱᕐᔪᐊᖑᔪᑦ ᐃᓃᑦ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᓱᓇᒃᑯᑖᑦ ᐸᕐᓇᒃᑕᐅᓯᒪᔪᓂ ᐱᕙᓪᓕᐊᕝᕕᐅᔪᒪᔪᒥ, ᐱᓕᕆᐊᖑᔭᕆᐊᖃᖅᑐᑦ ᓴᐳᔾᔭᐅᓯᒪᖁᓪᓗᒋᑦ ᔭᒐᑕᐅᑦᑕᐃᓕᖁᓪᓗᒋᓪᓗ. ᐃᓚᐅᔪᑦ ᐱᖃᓯᐅᔾᔨᓯᒪᔪᑦ ᐹᕙᓐᓛᓐᑯᓐᓂ ᐃᑦᑕᕐᓂᓴᓕᕆᔨᓂᒃ, ᐃᓄᖕᓂᒃ ᓇᐅᑦᑎᖅᓱᖅᑎᓂᒃ ᐊᒻᒪ ᓯᓚᒥ ᐱᓕᕆᓐᓇᐅᑎᓪᓗᒍ ᐃᑲᔪᖅᑐᓂ ᐱᖓᓱᓂ ᕿᑭᖅᑖᓗᖕᒥ ᓄᓇᓕᐅᔪᓂᑦ ᐱᔭᕇᖅᓯᓯᒪᔪᑦ ᖃᖓᑕᓲᒃᑯᑦ ᖃᐅᔨᓴᕐᓂᕐᒥᒃ ᖁᓕᒥᒎᒃᑯᑦ. ᓇᓂᔭᐅᔪᓗᒃᑖᑦ ᑎᑎᕋᖅᑕᐅᓯᒪᔪᑦ ᓄᓇᖓᓂ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᖁᓕᒥᒎᕋᓛᖅ ᐊᔾᔨᓕᐅᕈᑎᓕᒃᑎᒍᑦ, ᓇᓗᓇᐃᖅᓯᓯᓐᓈᖅᖢᑎᒃ ᓇᓂᓪᓚᑦᑖᖅ ᖃᐅᔨᓴᒃᑲᓐᓂᕆᐊᖃᕐᒪᖔᑕ. ᐊᑐᓂ ᓄᑖᖅ ᐃᑦᑕᕐᓂᓴᖃᕐᕕᒃ ᑎᑎᕋᖅᑕᐅᓂᐊᖅᑐᑦ ᓄᓇᕗᒻᒥᑦ. ᐱᒻᒪᕆᐅᔪᖅ ᓇᓗᓇᐃᕐᓗᒍ ᖃᐅᔨᓴᕐᓂᖃᖅᑎᓪᓗᒋᑦ ᐃᑦᑕᕐᓂᓴᓄᑦ ᐱᓕᕆᐊᒥ, ᓴᒡᒐᖕᓂᖅᑕᖃᓚᐅᙱᑦᑐᑦ ᐅᕝᕙᓘᓐᓃᑦ ᐲᖅᓯᔪᖃᓚᐅᙱᑦᑐᑦ ᑭᓱᑐᐃᓐᓇᕐᓂᒃ ᓱᓇᒃᑯᑖᓂᒃ. ᐹᕙᓐᓛᓐᑯᑦ ᐱᕙᓪᓕᐊᑎᑦᑎᓯᒪᔪᑦ ᓇᓗᓇᐃᔭᑦᑎᐊᖅᓯᒪᔪᓂᒃ ᐸᓚᐅᒪᑎᑦᑎᓇᓱᖕᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᐸᕐᓇᐅᑎᓂᒃ, ᓯᕗᓪᓕᐅᔾᔨᓂᕐᒥᒃ ᐅᐸᒃᑕᐅᑦᑕᐃᓕᖁᓪᓗᒍ ᐊᒻᒪ ᓴᐳᔾᔭᐅᓯᒪᓗᓂ. ᓇᒡᕚᖅᓯᐅᖅᑐᖃᓚᐅᙱᓐᓂᖓᓂ, ᐃᑦᑕᕐᓂᓴᓕᕆᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᐱᔪᓐᓇᐅᑏᑦ ᕿᒥᕐᕈᔭᐅᖅᑳᕆᐊᓖᑦ ᐊᖏᖅᑕᐅᓯᒪᓗᑎᒡᓗ ᓄᓇᕗᒻᒥ ᐃᑦᑕᕐᓂᓴᖃᕐᕕᖕᓄᑦ ᑎᑎᕋᕐᕕᐊᓂ, ᓄᓇᓕᖕᓂ, ᐃᓄᐃᑦ ᐱᖁᑎᖏᓐᓂᒃ ᓇᐅᑦᑎᖅᓱᖅᑎᒃᑯᓐᓂᑦ, ᐊᒻᒪ ᓄᓇᕗᒻᒥ ᒥᓂᔅᑕ ᐃᓕᖅᑯᓯᓕᕆᔨᒃᑯᓐᓄᑦ. ᐹᕙᓐᓛᓐᑯᑦ ᐊᑐᓲᑦ ᓇᓕᒧᒌᓂᒃ ᑭᒡᓕᓯᓂᐊᕐᓂᕐᒥᒃ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐃᓄᐃᑦ ᖃᐅᔨᒪᓂᖏᓐᓂᒃ ᓴᐳᔾᔨᓯᒪᔪᒪᓪᓗᑎᒃ ᐊᕙᑎᒥᒃ ᐊᐅᓚᓂᖃᕐᕕᒋᔭᑦᑎᓐᓂ. ᐱᓂᐊᕐᓂᕋᖅᓯᒪᔪᒍᑦ ᓄᓇᓕᖕᓄᑦ ᑐᓴᕋᓱᐊᖅᐸᖕᓂᒃᑯᑦ, ᐃᓄᐃᑦ ᑭᒡᒐᖅᑐᖅᑕᐅᓗᑎᒃ, ᐊᒻᒪᓗᑦᑕᐅᖅ ᐃᒃᐱᒍᓱᑦᑎᐊᕐᓂᒃᑯᑦ, ᓴᐳᔾᔨᓯᒪᓂᒃᑯᑦ ᔭᒐᐃᑦᑕᐃᓕᒪᓂᒃᑯᓪᓗ ᓄᓇᕗᒻᒥ ᐊᔾᔨᐅᙱᑦᑐᒥᒃ ᐃᓕᖅᑯᓯᕐᒥᒃ ᐊᒻᒪᓗ ᐱᐅᓪᓚᕆᒃᑐᓂᒃ ᐃᑦᑕᕐᓂᓴᓕᕆᓂᕐᒧᑦ ᐊᑐᖅᑕᐅᕙᓚᐅᖅᑐᓂᒃ. Are you looking for examples of capable business and community leadership ? Turf management is a very complex business with many external factors that require decision making in real time. One of the leaders in this area is David Sandurski from Stadiums Queensland . David provided an informative presentation on Stadiums Queensland and the interface with the Cross River Rail with the The Gabba ground at Australian Racecourse Managers Association 2024 conference. #ARMA #ARMA2024 #sport #stadium #turf #thoroughbred #racing #horseracing
