OD3 Student Olivia Stewart reflected on her recent placement in India: “Visiting the LV Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad, India, was an unforgettable and inspiring experience. We were in awe of how big the institute was, they see over 1500 patients daily! We witnessed a wide range of ocular conditions and advanced diagnostic and treatment methods, which enhanced our critical thinking and patient management skills. As global citizens, we gained a deeper understanding of healthcare disparities and differences in another country. The institute has a massive research output, one that they would like to work closely with UWA in future. The clinical placement opportunity at LVPEI has opened our minds up to so many possible trajectories of our own eye care journeys.”

OD2 students Sarah and Jarrod and UWA academic Han recently had the opportunity to travel to Ngaanyatjarra Lands where they provided essential eye care services to remote communities. Many thanks to the entire eye care team for their dedication and hard work, and to the students for their outstanding patient care and adaptability.

UWA Optometry students Simone Brandsch and Stephen Adesina recently presented at a peer support event hosted by the Macular Disease Foundation Australia. They shared valuable insights on the latest evidence-based practices in patient care and management of age-related macular degeneration with MDFA members. In addition, they discussed the low-vision services available in Western Australia and introduced exciting new services soon to be offered at UWA Optometry in collaboration with Vision Australia. A heartfelt thank you to MDFA for this amazing opportunity to connect our students with the community!
