It was a pleasure to bring light to your wonderful life stories, Jon! I'm really excited about initiatives that go above and beyond in the support they provide—but above all in making people feel they are worthy of getting help. Looking forward to the next cohort of scholars!

Following National Transfer Student Week, our conversation with eLearn Magazine gave me a great opportunity to shed light on some of the great work of our organization and our KLP Scholars! Community College Transfer Students are bringing new diversity, perspectives, and innovations to college campuses nationally, and our Scholars are especially prepared to transform higher education and industries in STEM, the Arts, Business, and every cornerstone of our society. Transferring is a brave journey; many students pursue this journey with limited knowledge and guidance; concerns about funding and fit; and open questions about the risks and benefits. Thank you Cristian T. Duque T. Duque for taking some time to speak with KLP Alum, Antoine Hunter, and us at the Kaplan Educational Foundation about "the challenges and 'what it takes'," as this interview and article helped to truly highlight the journeys community college students face every day. I hope this conversation encourages every transfer student to see their own potential and reach for every opportunity. Let me show you how to Leverage Learning for growth in your business or practice

Why don’t non-traditional adult learners take advantage of educational credits? 🤔 Dr. Ayelet Zur-Nayberg highlighted a crucial issue on The eLearn Podcast recently: >>> Most non-traditional adult learners DO NOT take advantage of programs that allow them to convert their work experience into academic credits (aka credit for prior learning). <<< Non-traditional adult learners often face several challenges in taking advantage of educational credits such as Credit for Prior Learning (CPL). Why is this? A few reasons we discussed include: 1. Lack of Awareness: Many adult learners are not aware that they can receive academic credit for their work experience, military service, or other learning outside the conventional classroom. 2. Complexity and Bureaucracy: The process can be complex and bureaucratic, deterring learners who may already feel overwhelmed by the demands of balancing education with personal and professional responsibilities. 3. Cost: Applying for CPL often incurs fees, which can be a significant barrier for adults returning to education who are managing other financial responsibilities. 4. Rigid Assessment Processes: Adults might feel that the assessments do not fully appreciate or evaluate their relevant experience accurately. 5. Undervaluing of Informal Learning: Educational institutions may not recognize or value informal learning or non-accredited training programs, even though these experiences can be highly relevant to the learners’ career paths. 6. Lack of Support: There might be insufficient guidance or support from the institutions on how to navigate the process of claiming these credits. 7. Fear of Rejection: There is often a fear that after going through the application process, their experiences will not qualify them for credits. 8. Time Constraints: The process of compiling evidence, filling out applications, and possibly preparing for assessments can be time-consuming. 9. Cultural and Psychological Barriers: Some adults might feel out of place or intimidated by the process of returning to school and dealing with administrative processes that are geared more towards traditional students. 10. Inflexible Learning Structures: Even if credits are awarded, the course schedules and structures may not be flexible enough to accommodate with their work schedules. How is your institution or company helping to address some (or all) of these issues so that non-traditional learners can re-skill and up-skill for modern workplace needs? Tell me in the comments! Make sure you follow me for more ways we can leverage learning for growth!
