Wow! What a great response we've had on our new report; thank you to everyone who has shared it around or brought it up in discussions. As a result, some of you have been asking "who are the EMC anyway?" From 2020-2024, the Electric Mine Consortium operated as a collaborative group of mining industry companies that were motivated to accelerate electrification and decarbonisation. This initiative was catalysed by the 2020 State of Play Electrification report, and saw a number of trials, product development, studies, partnerships, and shared learnings throughout our 20+ participating companies. Read more about our activities in the report excerpt below! Thanks to the subsequent rapid maturation of electrification capabilities, the EMC formally wrapped up in September, passing the baton on to our individual members to continue transforming the industry. This offered us a timely opportunity to collate the activities and insights from the lifetime of the EMC into our final report, which you can of course download for free at https://lnkd.in/gxufjmgd #mining #electrification #collaboration #transformation #insights

How good was it to see so much positive electrification news coming out of #MinExpo last week? With all the new technology and partnerships unveiled, it's clear that the future of mining is electric. Our new report supports these projects by providing tangible guidance on planning and executing an electric mine transition. It also offers an invaluable perspective on the broader industry and policy landscape to help decision-makers inform their next strategic move. There's even something for the financial teams, with the first publication of the EMC's custom financial model results comparing diesel and electric operations. ➡ Check out the full report now at https://lnkd.in/gtsamidX #mining #electrification #insights #decarbonisation #strategy #policy #industry #collaboration #leadership #financialmodelling

The EMC has always taken a broad approach towards accelerating #mining electrification, undertaking a variety of work across technology, strategy, policy, emissions reporting, and skills-related areas. Our latest publication takes a deep dive into #changemanagement, which we've seen as an emerging area of importance as #electrification projects begin to mature. We've included a preview of the contents below. In our recent "Transforming Mines" workshop, we highlighted that in order to set a vision for change, you need to show your organisation the future. That's exactly what happened recently in Sweden, where mining industry participants (including a few EMC members!) got to see the first fully battery-electric trolly truck system in action. Technologies like this eliminate both Scope 1 CO2 emissions and diesel particulate matter - an important step to building the safe and sustainable mines of the future. Events like this, which showcase the opportunities to the market, are a wonderful way to catalyse movement towards that future - well done Epiroc and partners! #mining #sustainability #zeroemissions #innovation #technology #collaboration #electricmine #energytransition

This week, mining houses from all over the world attended an exciting multi-day event focusing on the future of underground electric trolley solutions. Starting in Boliden Kristineberg, Sweden, the first fully battery-electric trolley truck system was showcased for the enthusiastic participants - emphasizing the need for more sustainable and productive ramp haulage solutions. "Getting the insights from the operations team, the OEM, and the electrical infrastructure team - all at once, all in one place - will be invaluable" said Paul Linabury, Manager Electrification at Perenti. The electric trolley system is the result of a successful partnership and shared sustainability vision between Boliden, ABB Process Automation and Epiroc to accelerate the transformation for a more sustainable mining industry.

When exploring mine electrification, it's important for businesses to have a clear and complete picture of the value case. Often, the full benefits are only revealed when considering the entire system over the long term - for example, when factoring in better health outcomes for employees, or a potential green premium.   Over the last four years, EMC members have worked hard to build a comprehensive picture of the value of mine electrification, leveraging traditional commercial metrics (e.g., a custom EMC financial model), market discovery research, and more holistic aspects (developed largely by our carbon workstream).   Check out our video below to hear our facilitator, Simon Prebble, IGO Ltd's Tess Lewis, and Blackstone Minerals Limited's Graham Rigo discuss the value they found through the EMC.   #mineelectrification #financialmodelling #capital #decarbonisation #healthandsafety #dieselparticulates #collaboration #transition #sustainability #carbonpricing #netzero

OEMs and technology companies are fundamental to the electrification journey. From the start, the EMC have recognised this, working hard to foster and encourage deeper relationships between miners, OEMs and technology companies. Trials are a critical component of building these relationships, as well as confidence for vehicle adoption. Over the life of the consortium, our members have been involved in numerous trials, representing every vehicle type used in a typical underground mine, including load and haul with traditional OEMs, to light and ancillary with non-traditional OEMs. Check out our video below in which several of our members talk about the role that collaboration and trials have helped in their decarbonisation work. #electrification #OEMs #decarbonisation #electricmine #technology #mining #miningcompany South32 Ampcontrol Perenti 3ME Technology Michelle Keegan Graeme Stanway
