Global renewable energy growth reached a significant milestone in 2023, with renewable energy jobs hitting a record 16.2 million, according to a recent report by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the International Labour Organization (ILO). This 18% increase from 2022 highlights strong growth in solar and wind energy sectors, with China leading the charge by generating nearly half of the world’s renewable energy jobs. The solar PV industry alone supported 7.2 million jobs globally, driven by China's dominance in manufacturing and installation. However, the report also points to geographic disparities, with regions like Africa lagging behind in renewable investments despite their high energy potential. Expanding decentralized renewable energy (DRE) systems, especially in underserved regions, could address energy access challenges and create local job opportunities. To meet ambitious global targets of tripling renewable energy capacity by 2030, greater international collaboration is necessary to mobilize financing and overcome barriers, especially in marginalized regions. Investment in skills training, workforce diversity, and gender equity is also crucial for ensuring a just and inclusive energy transition( IRENA )( International Labour Organization ). #RenewableEnergy #SolarEnergy #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #WindEnergy #EnergyEfficiency #Hydropower #SolarPower #EnergyStorage #ClimateAction #SustainableEnergy #EnergyTransition #ElectricVehicles #SmartGrid #CleanTech #CarbonNeutral #Decarbonization #NetZero #Bioenergy

Solar grazing isn’t a reality in Australia yet, but farmer-turned vegetation managers are pricking up their ears at the US-born concept. But to make it work in Australia will require a few changes to the American model, which sees flocks rented out to solar farms to keep the grass down. Sheep rentals to solar farms is now big, big business in the US. One market analyst suggested it is growing around 10 per cent every year and be worth $9.3 billion in 2031. #RenewableEnergy #SolarEnergy #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #WindEnergy #EnergyEfficiency #Hydropower #SolarPower #EnergyStorage #ClimateAction #SustainableEnergy #EnergyTransition #ElectricVehicles #SmartGrid #CleanTech #CarbonNeutral #Decarbonization #NetZero #Bioenergy

Records continue to tumble across Australia’s main grids as the spring weather boosts the output of wind and solar and mild weather moderates demand, but none are as spectacular as those being set in South Australia. The state’s unique end-of-the-line grid already leads the country, and arguably the globe, in the integration of variable wind and solar, with an average of more than 70 per cent of its demand over the last year and a world-first target of 100 per cent net renewables by 2027. On Sunday, at 9.35 am, the state set a new milestone, setting a new record share of wind and solar (as a percentage of state electricity demand) of 150.7 per cent, beating a record set on Christmas Day last year, when – for obvious reasons – there was little electricity demand. #RenewableEnergy #WindPower #SolarPower #NetZero #CleanEnergy #ClimateAction #Innovation #Sustainability #EnergyTransition #SouthAustralia #GreenEnergy #FutureOfEnergy

One of Australia’s biggest and most prominent renewable energy developers, Ark Energy, says it fears for its future and is fighting a bid for its parent company launched by a competitor that it says has a poor environmental record and is accused of being a serial polluter. Ark Energy is an Australian subsidiary – along with Townsville refinery owner Sun Metals – of Korea Zinc, and has been at the forefront of many key developments in Australia’s renewable energy industry. It and Sun Metals were behind the push for five minute settlements in the wholesale electricity market, which has opened the way for battery storage facilities to be competitive, and it installed Australia’s first and largest embedded solar farm (106 MW) at the Townsville refinery. #RenewableEnergy #Sustainability #ArkEnergy #CleanEnergy #SolarPower #BatteryStorage #GreenFuture #AustraliaEnergy #EnvironmentalSustainability #SolarEnergy #EnergyTransition #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #KoreaZinc #FiveMinuteSettlement

The Pilbara region of north-west Western Australia – the world’s biggest iron ore mining province and the country’s most fossil fuel dependent economic region – is opening up to create up to four new renewable energy super-highways. The W.A. government late last week formally opened a tender for expressions of interest in four priority transmission projects that will be critical for the Pilbara Energy Transition Plan. The four new links will extend to the Burrup peninsular, where controversial gas and other big projects are being constructed, major towns and ports including Port Hedland, to the huge iron ore mines in the Pilbara, and the proposed Australian Renewable Energy Hub to the north, where some 26 gigawatts of wind and solar could be built. #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #SolarEnergy #WindEnergy #Hydropower #EnergyStorage #GreenEnergy #SustainableEnergy #ClimateAction #NetZero #EnergyTransition #SolarPower #WindPower #HydrogenEnergy #ElectricVehicles #SolarFarms #WindFarms #EnergyEfficiency #Sustainability #GreenTech #FutureEnergy #AustraliaRenewables #Decarbonization #CarbonNeutral #ZeroEmissions

Installation of the first of 444 Tesla Megapack battery systems is underway at the first stage of the 600MW Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub in Victoria, one of the biggest grid-scale batteries in Australia. Victorian premier Jacinta Allan and state energy minister Lily D’Ambrosio marked the milestone at the huge project with a visit to the site in Melbourne’s west where, once completed, will total 1.6 gigawatt-hours of energy storage. The Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub is significant for more than just its size – it is the first project from the State Electricity Commission’s initial $1 billion investment as part of the newly rebooted SEC’s target of 4.5 gigawatts of new renewable energy generation and storage projects. #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #SolarPower #WindEnergy #ClimateAction #EnergyEfficiency #Renewables #GreenTech #Tesla

The New South Wales government has given planning approval for a 450MW solar farm in the state’s Upper Hunter Region that will be combined with an eight-hour battery, one of the largest of its type in the world. The Goulburn River solar project is proposed by Lightsource BP, and will be built on agricultural land about 28kmns south of Merriwa in the upper Hunter. The battery component was one of three eight-hour big battery projects that won underwriting agreements from the NSW government over the past year to help fill in the supply gaps as the state’s ageing coal fleet is retired over the next decade. #RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #SolarPower #WindEnergy #ClimateAction #EnergyEfficiency #Renewables #GreenTech #Australia #Gransolar

On Friday, the Environment Minister overturned prior state and federal approval for the $1 billion gold mine, citing concerns over protecting an Aboriginal heritage site. While the development area of the NSW mine was just 1,116 hectares (11km), about 2km of the site was determined to be a “significant Aboriginal area”. Conversely, SunCable’s 12,000-hectare solar (120km) solar farm and 800km transmission line in the Northern Territory have apparently not disturbed any cultural lands. Ms Plibersek’s decision to shut down the McPhillamys project came despite the Orange Local Aboriginal Land Council’s assertion the site did not hold significant sacred value.#RenewableEnergy #CleanEnergy #Sustainability #GreenEnergy #SolarPower #WindEnergy #ClimateAction #EnergyEfficiency #Renewables #GreenTech
