Let's talk about the types of person to person violence you can encounter: - Coercive controlling violence - the person using violence wants to manipulate and control you and those around you. They use threats, harassment, isolation and gaslighting to break you down. It can lead to physical violence but it doesn't have to and it's still abuse. - Resistive violence - we all want to defend ourselves when we are under attack. Insulting or attacking your abuser can result in you being labelled the main aggressor. - Violence unrelated to coercive control - the customer that yells, the child that throws physical tantrums, the older person you care for shouting abuse. Do you know how to identify each? To find out more about coercive control and healthy relationships, check out the Power and Control wheel: https://bit.ly/48rvc3e

New ABS research shows that 1 in 5 Australian women have experienced stalking. We tend to think about stalking as someone following you, but it can also include: - Repeated calls, texts, emails or social media messages - Notes left at your home, workplace or on your car - Unwanted flowers or gifts sent to your home - Monitoring your physical location by using your social media and email accounts without your permission - Using transport tracking and surveillance devices to see where you are - Installing an application or spyware on your phone that allows them to get access to your information and whereabouts without your permission. Stalking is meant to control and frighten you. It can escalate to more aggression over time. It's not ok. #FamilyViolenceHelp #VAWG #Stalking #StaySafeOnline

A lack of safe, connected and autonomous housing keeps women in prison, in violent homes and in unsafe situations. This needs to change. Don't keep our women in #Poverty and #Violence. Read more about our needs for better housing here: https://bit.ly/3Yi6Y7U

Girls have a right to: - be safe and feel safe wherever they are - expect that the adults around them keep them safe - be given information about how to raise a safety concern - be listened to and for action to be taken if they have a safety concern. Our vision for the future is for a world where we care about what’s happening to our girls. And that this plays out in the systems responsible for the health and wellbeing of children. Everyone needs to play a role in making this happen. Human rights are not individual, we all need to contribute. Here's to a better future for our girls. #IntDayoftheGirl #GirlsRunTheWorld #KnowYourRights

Who are your most meaningful connections with? #worldmentalHealthday #TogetherWeResist #TogetherWeRise

It's time we start thinking about how to provide safe, connected and autonomous housing for women after prison or escaping violence. The lack of transitional housing is a crisis we can't ignore.
