This culvert scanned with Emesent Hovermap was 130m long and very narrow at 3m wide x 3.5m tall. It had a smooth floor, ceiling, and walls, and the environment at either end of the culvert consisted mainly of trees and a creek. Choose the right tool for the job. For a large-area topographic and tree survey, dense vegetation often means that drone photogrammetry alone will not deliver the required results. To cover areas unsuitable for drone photogrammetry, survey provider Geotwin used Hovermap on the backpack and Hovermap with RTK for vehicle-mounted and handheld scanning. The flexibility of Hovermap gave them the ability to choose to drive an area if they couldn’t fly it, or walk an area if they couldn’t drive it – and to make that decision on the spot depending on the prevailing conditions of the site that day. 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗕𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗻 I remember when a client reached out after experiencing a situation that many of us on-site know all too well. The maintenance team was ready to start an urgent repair, but the process came to a halt due to outdated blueprints. Frustration ran high: combing through old documents, wasting time searching files and emails, and, in the end, having to rely on guesswork. This situation affected more than just time; every delay impacted the budget, adding extra costs as contractors charged for the uncertainties. The client was determined not to fall into this cycle again, which is when they decided to call us. To help prevent a similar situation, we used Emesent’s #Hovermap to conduct a 3D scan and create an updated, detailed Digital Twin of the site. Now, the client has precise, reliable information on their plant, ready to use whenever needed, opening the possibility of carrying out repair procedures entirely remotely, without relying on outdated blueprints. This case reminds us that, on-site, having reliable and accessible information isn’t just an advantage—it’s a necessity.
