We often showcase our Emesent Hovermap system autonomously navigating GPS-denied underground environments at low speeds. But did you know it’s just as capable in open, high-speed, and high-altitude scenarios? To put this to the test, we took it to a nearby farm field - along with our newly supported drone platform, the FreeFly Astro Max. This environment had fewer geometric features, making SLAM-based navigation even more challenging. We pushed the system to fly: - At 100m above ground level (AGL) @ 10 meters per second (m/s) - At 10m AGL @ 10m/s - Under canopy and among trees at 5m/s with collision avoidance The results? Emesent's navigation system performed exceptionally well, proving the power of our real-time SLAM-based localization and navigation. Even at 100m AGL and 10m/s over 1km of flight distance, the real-time SLAM localization (with no GPS) showed negligible drift when compared to onboard GPS data. Check out the video below! Недавно мы Alpha-Safety ТОО успешно провели обучение LiDAR сканеру #Hovermap для компании Miningwell Solutions в полевых условиях с особенной задачей.   С гордостью делимся впечатляющими результатами нашего недавнего обучения, в ходе которого Заказчик оцифровал историческую шахту 1950 годов (ранее затопленную), с помощью передового #SLAM сканера Hovermap ST от Emesent. Этот опыт стал настоящим прорывом в работе компании Miningwell Solutions! Так как по техническому заданию требовался точный скан в кратчайшие сроки.   Чего мы достигли:   -За всего лишь две рабочие смены нам удалось отснять более 9 километров, используя контрольные точки (GCP) для максимальной точности. -Обработка полученных данных также заняла всего две смены, что подчеркивает эффективность нашего подхода. В итоге, за 4 смены с помощью сканера Hovermap ST была проделана колоссальная работа, и Заказчик получил точные данные, которые были преобразованы в каркас. Отзыв клиента: «Этот опыт не только повысил нашу продуктивность, но и открыл новые горизонты для будущих проектов. Мы с нетерпением ждем возможности применить полученные знания и навыки в новых вызовах c Hovermap ST!» Ранее, работая маркшейдером, я использовал стационарный сканер, который не мог перекрыть все слепые зоны и мне приходилось переставлять очень часто стоянку, что значительно замедляло выполнение работ. 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝗧𝗵𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 This challenging terrain in Jackson, WY, is one of three snowboarding courses for the Red Bull Adventure Natural Selection Tour and was captured by Emesent Hovermap Ambassador Pete Kelsey. The course included a 1000 foot elevational difference from top to bottom, restricted airspace, snow flurries, rocks, trees, and no terrain awareness, making it often difficult to capture. Emesent Hovermap captured this scan in six 15-minute drone flights. Though International Women's Day occurs one day in the year, what is important to me is that we act on its principles every day.   This year’s theme is especially meaningful. #AccelerateAction is a call to push forward with substantive change, creating a more inclusive and equitable future for all. At Emesent, we are committed to building and sustaining an environment where everyone can belong. It is not about buzzwords, it is about putting values into action. We recognize the immense talent, expertise, and leadership that women bring to our company and our industry.    IWD is an important reminder that there is always more we can do: whether it's advocating for equity in the workplace, mentoring the next generation, or challenging barriers that exist.   On a personal note, it is the women around me that have profoundly shaped who I am today. Utilizing Real-Time Kinematics (RTK) enhances SLAM performance in low-feature areas and/or long-duration scans – and assists with georeferencing the point cloud. RTK helps Emesent Hovermap produce high-quality point clouds when traveling at higher velocities and altitudes (such as during drone flight) and mitigates the trade-off between low resolution and SLAM accuracy. While sublevel caving is an efficient and economical mining method, it requires regular monitoring of the surface subsidence and the cave formed to ensure: 1) safety of personnel underground and on the surface; 2) stability of mine and operations and continuity of production; and 3) validation of geotechnical models and optimisation of drill and blast. In the case of the Carrapateena mega cave, a predicted surface breakthrough of 5m in diameter occurred in 2023. As the hole continued to grow substantially over the next few months, as per the sub level caving method, monthly scanning became even more critical in order to assess its width and depth.
